The Ouray Ice Park is an extraordinary resource. It is to ice climbing what the best indoor gyms are to rock climbing. The abundance of routes at every level of climbing provides new comers and experienced climbers alike an amazing venue to learn and practice new skills on.

The ice park tends to be crowded on weekends and during holiday periods, so either plan to arrive early to have a choice of routes, or schedule your travel for off peak periods.

Ouray is centrally located to an abundance of outstanding back country ice routes, so to get the full benefit of ice climbing in Ouray a mix of a practice day(s) in the ice park followed by a day or more in the back country is highly recommended. San Juan Mountain Guides and PEAK provide guide services for people desiring tutoring in the park or guided lead climbing in the back country.

Everyone who climbs in the Ouray Ice Park benefits from the small group of volunteers who put in long, difficult hours to farm the ice in the park. Please buy an ice park membership to help support one of the most unique ice climbing facilities in the world.

The Ouray Ice Park is a fantastic place to climb. You can walk from many local hotels to the park. There are about 200 names routes. The new concrete anchors in the New Funtier and South Park are a huge improvement. There is a wide range of difficulties to the routes so there is something for beginners to experts. The Park is totally free to the public but please purchase an Ice Park Membership to help support this fantastic facility.

There's nothing in the world like it! Where else can you find yourself rappelling off an icy cliff and then climb yourself out of a steep ice canyon? The Ouray Ice Park is free thanks to local businesses and its members. If you visit consider buying the membership to help keep this attraction in action!

There aren't many (if any) better places to work on your ice climbing in the world. Sure, there will be plenty of people around, and it's not backcountry, but the volume of awesome climbing to be had with essentially no approach is hard to be. Beers and a good meal are only a few minutes away after climbing.
