Little issues:
Inadequate lighting especially with the very dark grey walls. It was impossible to operate the coffee maker.
The desktop surface was extremely water damaged.
The double door lock did not latch.
There was a a deep depression in the floor near the window.
Serious issues:
The safe was not secured at all and could easily be removed from the wall cabinet.
The bathroom fan switch protruded from the electrical box exposing bare wires
The toilet was not bolted to the floor and nearly fell over

What made the matter worse is that when I reported all of this to the clerk at the front desk I was given an excuse that:

I booked a family suite in January before the renovation was complete. I was impressed at how much the hotel looked like the artist renderings. The lobby was beautiful and fun (shuffleboard was a plus).The pool and hottub were beautiful and blended in with the scenic backdrop. The fireplaces outside looked inviting though we didn't have an opportunity to use it. Our 2 story suite was great, the balcony had amazing mountain views. The front desk staff, shuttle drivers, and house keeping were all great and accomodating.This is a new hotel and they were obviously still putting on finishing touches. My only comment would be that the bathroom needed hooks for robes, clothes,etc and the balcony could use chairs or furniture out there. Will return!

The service and amenities at the hotel were fantastic. However the room that we were assigned was outdated, and not up to typical Hilton standards. Beautiful area and tons of potential at this property.

As a new recently opened property, your feedback as a Hilton Honors member is vital for us as a property moving forward! We do apologize that our hotel was not up to your standards. When looking at your reservation, I was able to see that you stayed in one of our 1 King Suite Loft style rooms, which has been remolded, but the kitchen appliances have not been replaced. We are in the process of installing all new stainless steel appliances, and again apologize that your unit had not been updated prior to your arrival.

I am glad that you found our service and overall grounds fantastic, and would love to invite you back to our hotel at your convenience once all of our suites have the new stainless steel appliances installed. My wife and I just returned from a delightful Vail/Beaver Creek trip. This new Hilton is geographically between the two. The purchase and complete remodel of an old hotel was an incredibly positive move by Hilton. The company took 2 1/2 years to complete the job - everything is effected in a positive way with the construction. Some of the rooms are a little small for sitting, however the top floor rooms with lofts are substantial.

As important, perhaps more so than the remodel are the staff at the hotel. The front desk manager has all well in hand. The housekeeping people and some of the best we've seen during world travels.

Good luck to this new venture.

Room Tip: Ask about square footage of each room style.

Booked this one a few months back before the newer photos were up, so felt like I was taking a chance as some Doubletrees are older and need updating. Not so here! We had a nice loft suite that was updated and had a/c...key when its 90 something in Vail!

Room was tastefully updated and modernized and had a small kitchen and balcony. The pool and spa were nicely maintained and the lobby bar staff made sure we had drinks or food if we needed anything. They even had live music on the 4th! The public space in the lobby is very comfortable and had some games and big couches as well as TVs to watch World Cup/ have a drink/snack.

The Westside Cafe attached to the hotel has great breakfast and lunch/dinner too. Not the usual hotel restaurant! As others noted, the gym is very nice for a hotel this size and the free shuttle was great to save on costly and scarce parking in Vail Village or Lionshead.

Most important, EVERY staff member we encountered was eager to help, professional and polite. A focus on service without being too stuffy or formal. Kudos to the management and staff!

Bike rental place in the hotel was great and we loved the downhill bike ride- they took us up right from the hotel. They also are pet friendly and contrary to what others said, there is self or valet parking- but cost is the same as its part of the resort fee.

Will definitely come back again when in Vail!
