AJ's is casual and comfortable- service is good, food is consistent and good. Burgers are great, Cajun wings very good also. Large menu with something for everyone. Prices are reasonable. Full bar and many tables but usually very busy- full bar is always busy, quite loud and bright but overall a good standby- parking could be difficult- weekly specials are a fabulous deal!

Always great good and hospitality from the staff. Great atmosphere with outdoor seating and multiple bars inside and out.

AJ's has always had a wide range of customers depending on the day and time you go there. Weeknights tend to be regulars on the way home from work. Weekends add younger and older demographics with more families thrown in from nearby Woodridge Lake.

The new building is attractive outside with not quite enough parking when things get busy.
As others have mentioned, hard surfaces inside make the acoustics loud when the place fills up.
The bar is nice but with no separation from the main dining area and multiple TV's accompanying an active drinking crowd things can get noisy.
They opened this new location this past fall and the lighting and decorating have been works in progress.

There is a separate pleasant dining area with fireplace and a low wall dividing it from the bar and main dining area, but that low wall doesn't attenuate sound.

The old AJ's always had free peanuts that you could enjoy and toss the shells on the floor. The new AJ's continues that tradition by choosing unfinished concrete floors. The floors make it easy to broom the shells clean but also contribute to the hard acoustics.

They serve good simple bar food that satisfies.

In this new location they've struggled at times to maintaining consistency as they've had to train more staff and produce higher volume than they did at the old place.

That said... It's the best local bar/eatery between Litchfield and Torrington.

They've been working through teething problems at the new location but this last time I arrived 10 minutes before the kitchen closed and they could not have been nicer. I sat at the bar, received quick pleasant service and had a Stonington Salad (Scallops) that was fresh and delicious.

The girlfriend and I both ordered steaks medium rare. We got a well and medium well un-flavorable steak. Good thing I had a few beers in me and needed to eat. Oh, if you plan on actually talking to your dinner guests I suggest sitting next to them. Can't hear anything from all the echo and noise in the place. AJ's is probably the only game in town so, they have it locked down. Good luck if a real restaurant opens in Goshen or that side of town. Oh, if you plan on going despite my review, go after 5:00. They have nothing ready until then. The Carolina wing are good so, those saved the rating to a 3. The staff is friendly enough and the beer is cold. "3"

The old AJ's, in the basement of a building near the post office, had charm, but not much. It was known for friendly waitstaff and basic, good food at reasonable prices, especially the prime rib dinner on Thursday for only $9.95. Aesthetics were marginal at best. The new AJ's is located about a mile east of the rotary on Route 4. It is twice the size of the former space in a big, beautiful building. The waitstaff are still friendly, and the prices are still reasonable. The menu has been expanded, but the prime rib is still on Thursday night at the same price. My favorite is Wednesday evening, seafood night. The grilled scallops on fresh, local greens are terrific. The owner, Mark, serves up racks of ribs and chicken halves grilled on his outdoor cooker/smoker on Tuesday nights, with a special rub. Both are great! When AJ's is busy, the place is a bit noisy, so don't count on a romantic dinner. An AJ's staple is the barrel of peanuts free for the taking, a tradition for twenty years.
