My husband were heading to Cape Code and decide to stay one night at Foxwoods. We have visited the casino before (which we like very much) however this was our first time actually staying at the property. We stayed at the Great Cedar out of the four hotels believing it was the closet to the poker room, and it was.
Now- we have stayed in hotel casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, so we had something to compare this to. Finding the hotel was easy. We were immediately greeted by someone that helped us out of the car and with our luggage. We were told that our car would be valet parked-for Free! Now-that doesn’t happen in AC so kudos to you Great Cedar for this.

Check-In:
The lobby was very dark and there were no organized line for checking in. There was only two people behind the desk however, there was only 3-4 people in line to check in, so the process went fast. The staff were courteous however, they could use some customer service training. Note to Management if you’re reading this: I know you can see in your computer system that this is my first time at your hotel, so acknowledge that! The staff should engage with the guest more and make them feel welcomed. And please, add some more lighting to your lobby. This space is the first impression of your hotel so it should be well lit and inviting to your guest.

The Room:
We stayed on the 6th floor, not too far from the elevator and the room was nice. The décor was a little out dated but the room was very clean and the beds were comfortable, and I’ll take clean and comfort over modern décor any day! Yes- there was a cute window seat as others have mentioned, but ours was overlooking a roof so closed the curtains. The refrigerated was very loud, so we unplugged it and plugged it back in before checking out of the room the next day. The bathroom was clean and well stocked with towels etc. The only issue that I had with the room…was the same issue I had with the lobby, not enough lighting. There were light dimmers through the room and even though I’m a fan of romantic mood lighting, many guest (me included) will need to work on line while visiting your hotel so good lighting is needed.

Overall:
We got a good rate for the day and time of year that we stayed there, so it was a nice overnight stay. If My husband were heading to Cape Code and decide to stay one night at Foxwoods. We have stayed in each of the hotels at Foxwoods and this one may not appear as luxurious as Pequot Tower but we had a good stay this past weekend. We had adjoining rooms with family members. We were on the 6th floor, non smoking. No odors or any of the negatives I read in some reviews. The most important parts of any hotel stay for me are a clean room, comfortable bed, and good shower. We had all of these at the Great Cedar. Our rooms were clean, no complaints or concerns with the condition of any furnishings. The beds were great, very comfortable mattresses; the sheets and linens were heavy weight and fresh, no thread-bare sheets or thin towels. The water pressure in the shower was great. The handle was very hard to operate, had to pull forward to turn on the water and it did not want to work, but with some help we got it turned on. The bump-out window seat is a great design element that makes what might have been an ordinary hotel room something much better. The added seating and great view were much appreciated. Our rooms overlooked the front of the hotel and the traffic noise, especially the beeping sound from trucks and buses backing up, interrupted our sleep. We would definitely stay here again but would ask for a higher floor or different view to avoid traffic noise. It was an enjoyable stay, hope to come back soon.

We didn't spend much time in the room, except to shower and sleep. The bathroom was spacious, shower was hot, water pressure was good. There was an additional sink area outside of the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. There was a bay window that was huge; actually a triangle instead of the normal bench seat. Two people could comfortably fit inside.

The rooms at the hotel are spacious and very comfortable! The hotel has two casinos - one Non- smoking.
The Foxwoods complex is huge, and one must take a free shuttle bus to get around complex, unless you have a car or love to walk.
It has one restaurant which does not open for meals until 11:30 but there is a buffet one can go to - a bit far if you have difficulty walking. There is a Food Court, however.
There are several other restaurants in other hotels. The Veranda Cafe was excellent.
Checking In process took time - difficulties with computers and keys.

We were originally booked for a room on the 5th floor. Upon arrival, room was not ready so we were able to leave our bags with the bell captain. We received a call while we were eating lunch that they had a room available for us. We were glad to hear that we didn't have to wait till 4 pm to check in. We got to the room and our key card would not work. We tried the other key card several times and it finally went thru. I tried to turn the tv on and it wouldn't change channels. There was a dirty napkin behind the tv as well. As I pulled the bed cover to lay down, there were two big cigarette burns on the bed sheet. That was the last straw. We called down to the front desk. They said they would send housekeeping up to change the bed. My husband said no it doesn't seem this room was turned over at all. They offered another room further down the hall but it wouldn't be ready till later. That was still not acceptable. They redeemed themselves by offering us a suite on the top floor. Overall we had a nice time. The casino is big with two other hotels. Lots of shops and there is even a Tanger outlet, which you can access from either the Foxwood Tower or Grand Pequot casino. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. Be prepared to walk a lot. If you are not good with directions take a map of the property. But there are signs everywhere. Great Cedar definitely needs some updating and better housekeeping, especially at the prices they charge. We normally go to Mohegan Sun, pay half the price and the hotel rooms are updated, clean and smell good every time we go. Most likely will not be back.

Thank you for your review. I apologize for the condition in which you found your room. This is not the standard we strive for or tolerate. Please be assured your comments will be shared with our Housekeeping department. I am happy to hear that our team was able to upgrade you to a suite and you were able to enjoy the rest of your visit. I wish we were able to speak with you about the situation before you departed the property. Hopefully you will give us another chance to service you better in the future.
