We ordered pizza at Ernie's the other night since it came highly recommended. We were very impressed!!
The service both on the phone and in the restaurant was great.
The pizza was ready in just the time it took to drive over to get it ( about 20 min). Even after the drive home the pizza was steaming hot and crisp.
Out pizza was very good, second only to Pepe's, better than Modern! We ordered ou standard pepper and sausage (so we could truely compare) and the onion pie we have been hearing people swoon over. Our standard was delicious, the onion was AMAZING! I never thought I would be raving about an onion pizza, but the way the onions are sliced extra thin and scattered over the cheese is perfect!!!
This pizza is a bit generous with the cheese, but not overly heavy like Modern's pizza.
We had to rate this pie second to Pepe's only because we love the sourdough flavor of the crust at Pepe's.
Ernie's, thanks for a wonderful pizza. We will see you soon!

Great crusty, flavorful pizza. We'll sometimes get a marinara and onions, no cheese except romano. Really tasty and easier on the waist line. But if you're going all out, the clam with extra garlic is to die for. They do use a lot of motz so ask for less if you're not into all the cheese.

One request of the owner...Use real mushrooms...not the canned stuff.

Other than that it's near perfection and goes toe to toe with Sally, Pepes, Modern, etc..

terrific pie...the place is usually jammed, getting in and out can be a hassle at rush hour... but the food is worth it. right up there with sally's, pepe's and modern among new haven's excellent pizza joints.

Pretty good pizza, but not as good as downtown and no delivery.

I have been going to Ernie's since he opened about 30 years ago. New Haven has the best pizza anywhere in the country. I moved to New Jersey and then settled in Florida and still look forward to trips "home" so I can have real pizza. Pat, Ernie's son is carrying on the tradition and doing a fine job. My uncle who is also a New Haven native, currently lives in California and also looks forward to real pizza found ONLY at Ernies.

Pat, we will see you soon.
