We traveled to Daytona the first week of December this being our first time we were not sure what to expect. I have to say we were very happy with our choice of the Catalina. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and spacious and we had a full kitchen equipped with all the items you'd have at home. We were on the 4th floor and had a great view of the ocean. The weather while we were there was not the best, it rained 3 of the days but it was still warm and when not raining we were able to enjoy the beach. I have to say I was surprised at all of the damage from the hurricanes, alot of the hotels near the Catalina were closed or boarded up. We did see alot of workers doing construction on a few buildings but most were closed. We did eat out a few nights and would recommend the aquarium restaurant by the marina, and we also went up to International Blvd and went to Gators Pub, this was also very good. If your looking for a great burger place the Brickyard was awesome, not a fancy place but very good food. We did also go to Tailgators and that was a bad experience, it may be a good place to go and have a few drinks but the food was not good. Not far from the hotel there are alot of places for shopping, all kinds of restaurants, mini golf and the race track is not far away. I realize we went to Daytona during off season and it was quiet but this was OK for us as this was a vacaton to just kick back and visit some relatives in the Orlando area, I would like to come back during a busy season and be able to enjoy the beach more. I would definately stay at the Catalina again as it has all of the comforts of home. If you want to just stay around the resort there is stuff to do and if you want to venture out you are not far from anything. Hope this helps a bit!
