This was my first visit. We had some visitors who were casual “birders” so thought they might enjoy it. I’d go on a weekday if possible. There is ample parking. Guided tours are available by volunteers who are very knowledgeable, and are free. There are lots of opportunities to get beautiful pictures of wildlife so bring a camera! The boardwalk makes it easy to access the views and is marked with placards that explain various aspects of the slough. Well worth the trip to see the real “wild” side of Florida.

Nice place to spend a few hours on a nice day. Parking is $5 all day or $1hr. You could spend an hour or so in the center on visual and hands on displays. A very well maintained board walk about 1 1/2 miles long with rest stops and displays ever 75_100 yards with many wildlife viewing opportunities ranging from small birds and mammals to rodents and alligators. Scheduled tours are available.

Beautiful area with a nice walking path. Peaceful, yet exciting!
We saw birds, turtles, fish, and an alligator.
We walked to the slough so it was entirely free for us. Also, we went into the info center and the lady inside informed us that a section of the walk was closed due to an alligator laying her eggs right next to the walking path. Very cool!

Recommend this nature trail for visitors who want to see Florida natural wildlife and vegetation. Well maintained boardwalk and easy access and parking. Nice addition to our Fort Myers points of interest when you have guests to the area.

Came on a cloudy and sometimes rainy day, so unfortunately did not hike. Visited the nature center, staff was very friendly and informative. Great video about the importance of the preserve for wildlife and the Everglades. Took the loop road drive, was relaxing and beautiful, saw lots of gators and other interesting wildlife. There is a detailed pamphlet on the preserve’s website that tells interesting details about each section of the road based on mile markers.

Be sure to bring beverages and some snacks, and a full tank of gas - there are no stores on the loop and few outside of it for quite a distance. Well worth a day’s visit!
