Got to love history and this place has so much of it. If you like history take the tour. I hope you like cats because there are lots of them. Worth the money for the tour.

Thank you very much for your excellent 5-star review!
As a Canadian, you may know that Ernest Hemingway used to live and work in Canada. His featured articles appeared regularly in the Toronto Star starting in 1920. By 1924 the by-line “By Ernest M. Hemingway” had become familiar to readers of the Toronto Star Weekly and its companion publication, the Toronto Daily Star and other publications called the Star Weekly and Daily Star. He was not writing short stories or imaginative fiction at that time, just news items. Journalism played an important part in the trademark stylistic development of the major American Author. You may want to pick up a copy of Ernest Hemingway Dateline: Toronto. Today, John Patrick Hemingway, grandson, lives in Montreal, still giving Canada that Hemingway connection.

Thank you very much for your excellent 5-star review!
As a native of England, you may know that Ernest Hemingway met his wife Mary in London while she was working for Time magazine. It is great to have that connection with your great country through the life and times of Hemingway.

I visited last week while in port as part of a cruise. My husband and son chose to go kayaking instead. The house itself is nothing overly special...typical small Southern home. It's the tour guides that make the tour. They tell you about the history of the home, all of Hemingway's wives, the cats, stories about Hemingway, etc. Well worth the admission fee of $14 (cash only). No limit on how long you can stay and wander around the house and the grounds. This English major was pretty geeked to stand in the studio where Hemingway wrote many of his most famous novels and stories. Very easy to get to from the hop-on, hop-off trolley stop nearby.

As many times as I have been to Key West I never visited Hemingway House. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the tour. Don't forget to leave a donation for the care of the famous Hemingway Six-Toed Cats!

As you may know that Hemingway was born in your home-state, in Oak Park, Il, outside of Chicago. There is a Hemingway home and Hemingway Museum in Oak Park, both worth a visit if you are ever in the vicinity.
