Broken elevators and every day they will tell you it will be fixed. Concierge lounge that so many Elite members commented on in the reviews, is closed, permanently. There is an outdoor restaurant and bar that is closed or under renovation, or something like that. Their story changed daily, but either way it is not open so you cannot have poolside eats or drink from that restaurant/bar. The housekeeping service was terrible. Towels were not replaced, soap was not replaced etc. This is a sad excuse for a Marriott. Especially one at this price point. Maybe they sold to a private investor? The front desk staff is very nice. But the rest of the staff in average at best. Also, out by the outdoor games by the pool, there were drunk and loud teens bothering guests one evening. Were they staying there? Where was security? They were going at it for over an hour. And how were they drunk with the main hotel restaurant bar closed?

I absolutely loved this hotel. Initially, I was skeptical based on the reviews, but from the moment we arrived, we were in love. We arrived early in the morning, so our room was not ready, but that was to be expected since check-in time is not guaranteed until 4pm. We were fine with waiting since it’s SOUTH BEACH! Get into something while you wait, there’s tons to do. As far as our stay, the room was clean with an fantastic ocean view, which we stared at from our comfortable bed. Our housekeeper, Solange, was the sweetest lady. She made sure our room was clean and comfortable our entire stay. I would like to thank the Front desk and Door/Bell staff for their OUTSTANDING customer service from the moment we arrived until we left. Their hospitality was top-notch especially Alejandro (Door/Bell ?) Jenny, Maria and Andrea (Front Desk). Thank you all for such a wonderful stay, I won my fiancé over with this trip, he enjoyed every moment there. Oh my, I do not want to forget the pool attendees were great as well. The drinks were a bit expensive by the pool, but that’s to be expected in South Beach as well. There’s fun life-sized games such as chess, connect four etc for those who are like us....enjoying the fun in the sun like kids. We will be back! Very walkable to all the action of SOBe and great restaurants.

I’m here right now and “disappointed” is an understatement. This property is an embarrassment to the Marriott I know and love. Not worth the money and/or points. No pool/outdoor bar. Only one bar (the Cantina) offering drinks during the day. Good luck finding it and drinks outdoors. Unless you’re on the beach or by the pool it’s self service.

Other random observations

1. Only one working elevator for a full hotel. Yes it’s that bad

2. Was sitting outside on the sun deck. In the middle of the Morning they took my umbrella and made me move so they could do a hotel photo shoot. Employees didn’t ask. “Sorry you’re going to have to move.” Manager on duty, “oops sorry.” Did nothing. Point is that guests are second priority to a photo shoot. Rude

3. Staff (with the exception of the front desk crew) are not nearly as friendly and attentive as normal Marriotts.

4. This is not a real Marriott. If you’re looking or a boutique hotel with few amenities, I guess this may be for you.

5. Rooms are great. Loved it. But if there is only one elevator so you may have to take the stairs.

See a few random pics.

Newly renovated Marriott property on quiet end of the street, next to water, you walk out the back door you be on sand, we love the idea of the hotel offering free chairs and towels for guests at the beach.

Check in was fast and easy, staff members are all very polite, smile every time you walk by and open the door for you.

But, since it recently got upgraded as a resort, no more business lounge, no more free breakfast for elite members.

The $25 a night resort fee includes 2 free drinks to the new Lolo restaurant, foods are on the expensive side, and they just ok.

We ate mostly on the street, the big pink and TGI Friday, and there is a homemade ice cream shop few steps away you got to try.

The hotel itself was nice. I am a platinum member for life and I felt like my loyalty to Marriott meant nothing at this hotel. Parking is $45, “resort” fee is $28 (mandatory),no concierge lounge, and no coupon for free breakfast or appetizers for the lack of the concierge lounge. We ate at Lolo’s for breakfast and the food was fine, but the service was really slow. 18% gratitude is automatically added to your check so it doesn’t seem like anyone is motivated to work. Only one elevator worked while we were there so it seemed like a 5 minute wait every time you left went downstairs (or had to wait for the elevator to come back because it was already full). If you get zero perks for being a platinum member, and their is a fee for everything (even if you don’t want it) try a different hotel, and luckily, Miami Beach has a lot of other choices.
