Stayed here with my husband and daughter, the rooms were lovely and the hammocks on the porch were a lovely touch. We went on the boat trip up the river and saw monkeys and lots of birds. The staff were lovely and helpful and our guides were lovely.

This is an excellent base for exploration of the river and surrounding area. The hotel itself is basic but comfortable. It is constructed with a series of walk ways that elevates you from the ground. The rooms are large and clean. No TV, basic shower that runs warm but not hot and large comfortable beds. There is a bar that serves wine by the bottle and Tiger beer and an adjacent relaxation room with TV and board games.

Most of the trips from here are river based and this allows you to see some wildlife, especially monkeys, the odd bird, wild boar and the possibility of crocodiles.

It can become a bit boarding when not on an excursion, there were several hours of downtime and there are limits to how far you can wander without the possibility of getting lost.

Our guide from the hotel, Yan, was superb, very friendly, knowledgeable and with endless patience for our often rowdy kids.

A slight downside which is apparent in many natural habitats, there was a fair bit of domestic rubbish scattered about the area. I can't really understand why it wasn't collected.

We stayed here as part of a trip around Sabah and this was a great place to stay. Certainly felt like you were staying in the jungle but with all the comforts of a hotel. Everyone who stayed got their own wooden “hut” however the furnishings were modern and air con included. You had to contend with bugs in parts of the room but that is to be expected. The “huts” are built in the jungle behind the main bar and eating area and you can only get to the lodge by boat. They also offer various boat cruises along the river, which I would recommend. Along the river you can see all sorts of wildlife, we saw various birds, Macaques, the endemic Proboscis Monkey as well as a herd of pygmy elephants cooling themselves off in the river. There is of course no guarantee you will see anything but they take you up the river quite a way whilst looking. You can also see other monkeys and if very lucky wild orang-utans. Overall really enjoyed this place but do remember it is a river lodge in the jungle, it was comfy but dont expect the lap of luxury!

We originally booked the lodge for 4 nights for 583£ full board. We stayed only 2 nights and then we run away just not to spoil our vacations! So, we lost more than 450£ (around 290 for the 2 nights + 140 for new flight back to Kuala Lumpur + extra money for food).

The problems were:
1) many cockroaches in the room - we didn't sleep properly for 2 nights as the cockroaches were walking on us during our sleep.
2) nothing to do around for most of the day. There were only 2 possible activities - boat trip and jungle walking, but the jungle walking could not be done since there were elephants nearby.
3) room not well maintained (see photos)
4) food was not good

On the positive side:
1) boat trips were nice if you had a guide and you could see many monkeys, birds, elephants and even chimpanzees
2) rooms were spacious and well designed (but not well maintained)

The overall (big) size of the chalet makes them a bit less cosy, but the overall location (surrounded by the river, rainforest and wildlife) is truly amazing! Chalets are overall clean, comfy and facilitates are great (good local good; don't expect any hamburgers, hotdogs or french fries, but truly great local food!). Don't expect 5-star luxury (e.g. shower is sometimes a bit cold, mosquitos are (obviously) everywhere (bring DEET insect repellent), but you're in the middle of an ancient rainforest. A fantastic experience!

Tip: take a stroll along the river, to the neighboring (tiny) village or into the jungle at the 'back side' of the logde complex (make sure you ask the logde staff whether a stroll through the rainforest is allowed; in case of elephants nearby the logde walking into the jungle is not allowed and dangerous).

Room Tip: Tip: take a stroll along the river, to the neighboring (tiny) village or into the jungle at the 'back side' of the logde complex.
