My family and I just returned from a trip to D-World and after reading pages and pages of reveiws here was my experience:
PRO'S: You cannot beat the location for the price. You are literally down the road from the parks. We took the free shuttles every day and had no problems. They definitely run true to the schedule but the A/C was running and even at capacity they let us on with a stroller and bags. We stayed in the newest tower (Luna) which was a short walk to the main lobby, activity center, and main pool/lazy river. The pools were both crowed at times, but we never had any issues with rotten kids or foul language. We had a two bedroon and the second bedroom had two beds so the kids were thrilled that they didn't have to share. We asked the guard at the gate how to get to the Super-Walmart and she gave us a sheet that had directions to it as well as a grocery store and Target. Trust me...spend the extra 5 minutes drive time and go to Walmart. The prices at the grocery store are twice as high (literally). Plenty of towels and kitchen ware, and if you catch one of the cleaning people you can get more soap and shampoo. We didn't have any construction noise (and it was going on right next door) even on the two days we slept in. If you are going to the park buy a spray bottle with fan off-prem and bring it in along with water. It will save you quite a bit of money and help fight off the heat.
CON'S: Customer service at the hotel was not great. High pressure sales from the minute you checked in...when you went to the desk to get your parking pass they tried to get me to sign up for a date/time for a sit down "survey" to see how they were doing. For the pleasure, you would get discounts on D-World tickets. I declined but that did not stop two follow up phone calls. Then there were on going issues with the ventillation in the second bedroom where one day it would nice and cool and the next no air would blow and it was hot. The patio/balcony was not screened in so it was good for drying clothes from the pool and that was about it. The part I fould the most annoying, however, was when trying to reach someone to ask a question about the shuttle it took 4 CALLS to get an actual person on the line. Calls one and two kept rolling into an endless loop for guest assistance. Call three I went right for the front desk and after no one answered a recording came on saying no one was available...good bye...! Call four someone answered and she was less than pleasant. The next we had to call (the garbage disposal was not working) they answered quickly but we did not see anyone from maint until the next day (almost 24 hrs later to the minute). They apologized and explained that the new tower is having so many probelms they are really busy. The best part was that it was fixed quickly but not timely to be sure. I have stayed at two FL Hilton timeshare properties and I can see the difference in customer service. I was shocked that it was so difficult to get someone to answer a phone. I have no problem sitting on hold for a while but that was not even an option. Not very helpful.
All in all the room was nice, the location was great, the property had plenty of activities for the kids (t-shirt making and other arts and crafts every day), and the pools were fun. If you need to deal with the staff, it can become aggrivating at best.
