Emerald Beach Resort
Reviewed 20 February 2009

Wife and I stayed at Resort on February 5 (one night before our one week condo rental at Wyndham; same location but entirely different conditions.) Checked in was OK; not very enthusiatic staff but efficient. Had a one bedroom unit on 15th floor. Entered unit and said "Wow, what a wonderful deal for the price." Great view and wonderful layout; bathroom isgreat with a jetted tub.
Out for food and wonderful oysters and back to unit. Wife wanted a bath - first the water smelled like sulfur and I have a bad nose and it was strong; second the tub jets did not work and the tub was filthy around the jets; third after giving up on the bath tried to watch TV in the bedroom and it would not turn on manually or by remote. Tried to call front desk twice 20 minutes apart; let it ring at least 10 times; no answer.
Upon checkout I informed the clerk (actually he was the supervisor) of our problems. He said that Edgewater Resorts was supposed to answer after 5 PM; sulfur smell is not uncommon ; and he would report the TV problem and dirty tub. Not very helpful.
Moved to Wyndham Vacation Club condo next day.
Staff very helpful and very friendly, unit clean and perfect, all was excellent.
Same building, same or close to same units, but difference in condition and staff is 180 degrees! Emerald Beach needs to get their act together and maintain their units and hire staff that care about a guest's experience.

We used a week of timehshare thru RCI and went here. We knew it was an off time of year and that was ok. It sure is a looong way back and forth from the rooms to the parking garage. Glad walking was not an issue for us! We could hear everything the people in the unit above us did and they were so noisy we had to call the desk after midnight one night two times. Their kids were running and jumping and could have cared less that someone was underneath them trying to sleep. There is no restaurant on site and the so called bar inside the walkway was closed 4 days of the week. The pool beachside was not heated as they claimed. Loved the general area but wouldn't go back to this resort again. Be sure to eat at Uncle Ernies, by far the best place around there for seafood. Our room was decorated nicely but the workmanship left a whole lot to be desired!

We stayed in two one-bedroom units during our week stay there. Came in at the tail-end of "Biker Week", and fortunately, only had to listen to their noise for 2 nights! Our rooms were located on the 23rd floor and then we moved to the 14th floor. Location didn't seem to make any difference in the motorcycle noise coming from the street - 23rd floor was just as noisy as the 14th. The rooms are not very sound-proof in general, as we could hear talking from anyone walking the corridor outside the rooms. After reading a few of these reviews, you probably understand the parking situation. It is inconvenient, but not so much that it would keep me from visiting again. It helps a lot to find a parking place on the third level, close to the entrance door.
Traffic in the parking garage is 2-way, so be careful of people who fly through and don't share the road!

The condos are very nice with top of the line appliances, granite countertops, tile floors, new furniture. We were Wyndham guests and all their units are basically the same. The kitchen was huge! Much bigger than one would expect in a condo of any size! Plenty of cabinet space. Fridge had a water dispenser and ice dispenser in the door. Everything was sparkling clean!
Parasail rental and banana boat rides are available right on the beach below, along with motorized watercraft rental.

Pool guards were friendly but did enforce the rules - no drinks in the pool or hot tub and no toys left along the perimeter of the pool. One thing they should enforce is people who park themselves on the pool steps, forcing others to have to step around them to get in! We had a few cooler days and they did heat the pool on those days.

We had absolutely no trouble at check-in and the process was fast. Very helpful bell-staff and check-in staff. Will definitely plan another trip to the Wyndham Emerald Beach.

We loved Emerald Beach! We went directly to VRBO.com and called the owner. If you want a steal of a deal, go to vrbo.com and look for unit #101064, the best deal we found by far. This particular unit is in a great location within the complex, on the third floor very near the Sky Bar and bridge, and also a very short elevator trip to the beach level. This condo unit is also very tastefully decorated with deep reds and beiges, not your typical "beachy" decor. It truly felt like a home away from home

A few notes about the condo units at Emerald Beach: The balcony isn't huge but it's sufficient, slightly cramped with more than four adults. The master bedroom is very large with a bay window overlooking the ocean and a separate door onto the balcony. As far as we could tell, all units have bunk beds just inside the front door. The kitchen is spacious with many upgrades, and there is a separate laundry room off of the kitchen. Our unit also had a large bathtub and separate shower in the master bedroom. There is also a Starbucks on premises across the street at the lower parking deck level. Emerald Beach is a very short walk to Sharky's and about a five minute drive to Pier Park (be sure to eat at the Back Porch--awesome)!

The resort has two pool areas, one on the north side of Front Beach Rd. and one beachfront. The northernmost pool is more of a children's play area and the one on the beach is complete with a jacuzzi and a tiki bar (and the water in this pool is SO cold). We were surprised to find the tiki bar in full operation on the last week of September, and the frozen margaritas and mojitos were fantastic. Ask them about their drink specials, because they don't seem to volunteer the information but there are usually discounts on certain draft beer and frozen drinks. That's how I found out about the awesome frozen mojitos ($5 each for a 16 oz. cup). And, because they make the drinks in plastic cups, you can just stop by on your way to the beach and have a cold drink in your hand when you hit the sand!

A short drive to Ebro, about 20 minutes, and you can play poker in their very nice poker room. There are several weekly tournaments with affordable buy-ins. We did this one evening during our seven night stay. It's approximately a 20 minute drive, and they have table limits as low as $1 and $2.

Our stay at Emerald Beach was excellent and we will be returning to the same room and resort next year!

My sister planned a trip to PCB beginning Wednesday, September 10th, for a four day weekend. She booked through VRBO.com #127800. She mailed her 4 days rental check plus a $300 deposit check to the owner, "Tinker." As luck would have it, Hurricane Ike headed straight toward her residence in Houston. She works for a major medical center in Houston and was unable to leave the hospital during the storm (she spent the night at the hospital...on the floor). As Ike headed toward Texas, she informed the owner, Tinker, VRBO.com #127800 that she and her daughters could not come to Florida. She understood she would forfeit the rental, but the owner ALSO KEPT HER DEPOSIT. I can understand she had to make the owner whole because the owner probably could not re-rent the condo on such short notice, but to take advantage of someone suffering through a natural disaster is incomprehensible. I caution all potential renters to carefully consider renting this condo at Emerald Beach or any other condo this owner may own. My my sister did not "damage" this condo because they never made it, AND paid the four day rental fee (which is not in dispute). There are many ethical condo owners out there, this was a terrible experience.
