Turtle Glass at Windmark Beach

I was a little late in looking for a place on the water in MB or CSB, but found this place. Expensive, but enjoyed the stay. Unit 305 is a 1bdr with two queens. The unit is spacious with vaulted ceilings. Everything facing West is glass. Very quiet area, I guess they built this thing into the recession and it just never took off. The beach is narrow, but nice enough. We enjoyed some beautiful sunsets and amazing star gazing. You're really on St. Joseph Bay and protected from the surf by beautiful Cape San Blas. I love the area and we took advantage of the beaches at both Mexico Beach and CSB. It's about 4 miles to Port St Joe where we shopped and dined. The large pool was also nice. It's not for everyone, but If you like having everything practically to your self, you'll love it. I did.

We rented Turtle Glass Unit # 201 and just loved the condo. It was a 1 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath unit with floor to ceiling windows throughout and a gorgeous round kitchen. There were some issues that required several visits by maintenance staff and that was fairly disruptive to our stay, although the rental company, No Worries, was very helpful and responsive to our needs. We had no icemaker until the last day because a new one had to be ordered. The cords for the curtains in the living room were broken so they could not be pulled open. A lamp in the bedroom didn't work and wasn't fixed. These are things that should be taken care of before any new occupants arrive to prevent the disruption caused by maintenance visits.

We were there during a slow period in late August and really enjoyed the fabulous pool all to ourselves on all but one of the days. The beach is not that great.......narrow strip of sand and the water is not as clear and beautiful as the gulf. However, the walking trails are wonderful. We loved the overall setting of Windmark Beach but wish there were better food stores and other amenities nearby.

Room Tip: Get a condo with a view of the water

We just returned from a 7-night stay at the Turtle Glass condos at WindMark Beach. This was our first-time to travel to that particular part of Florida and we were unsure what to expect. With this property being part of the St. Joe Company, we thought it would at least be similar to WaterColor on 30A and we found that to be true. Overall, it was a well-kept and nice property and we'd stay there again.

Upon arrival, WindMark was practically a ghost-town. At first that sort of unnerved us, as it did another family arriving about the same time as us, but we quickly got over it. The condo was really quite fabulous. The hardwood floors throughout were beautiful and, even though the condo was only a one-bedroom, all the rooms were spacious and the floor to ceiling windows offered a beautiful view. The balcony had a great view of the St. Joe Bay and it was also shaded, which was a big perk. The main pool was very nice and had numerous loungers to choose from. The pump broke on the main pool while we were there and they, No Worries Vacation Rentals, let us use another pool on the property. When the main pool was fixed, they called to let me know it was reopened. I thought that was nice and considerate on their part.

We arrived on a Saturday and by Monday all the rentals around us were full and there were plenty of people around. Even though the condos were full, there was still plenty of space to roam and you didn't feel crowded at all.

Our boys rode their bikes on the bike paths and through the development most days and had a lot of fun. I found the bike path to be a great place to run in the mornings.

We had one small maintenance issue while we were there, but it was fixed promptly by their staff.

- Clean and quiet community.
- Plenty of green-space and the pools and outdoor areas were nice.
- The bay was a cool place to swim as well.
- Beautiful gulf-front beaches within a short drive. We especially liked the state park at Cape San Blas.
- This area of Florida is very, very quiet and not touristy. To us, this was a huge benefit.
- Wonderful local restaurants to choose from in Port St. Joe.

- It would be nice if the development, WindMark Beach, were just a little more developed. I think it hasn't fully bounced back from the market collapse.
- If you are looking for a true gulf-front beach, you'll have to drive to get it.
- The supplies and towels in the condo are the required minimum. The supplies don't match the caliber of the lodging. When we opened the cabinets, we found a broken wine glass, some dirty dishes, and missing some utensils. One would think they could take care of that.
- There is a fitness center onsite, but you have to pay an additional fee for it. We skipped it.
- We tried to rent beach chairs and umbrellas through the No Worries Beach Rental. If you want chairs delivered anywhere outside of WindMark, which they advertise as doing so for an additional $10.00 fee, once the chairs are setup, you are responsible for taking down and setting up yourself for each additional day of service. They tried to tell me this was due to a rule in Gulf County, but traditionally when people pay for beach service that includes setup and take down each day. That seemed to be lost on them. Bottom line: we decided to buy our own stuff, which was cheaper than the rental, if we were going to have to do all the work anyway. Small nuisance but we got over it.

Overall, this was a solid pick for our family this year. We'd strongly consider coming back in the future and for us it served us well. The people in the surrounding areas were friendly, nice, and helpful.

Room Tip: Room 307 had a great view of the bay.

My husband and I stayed at Turtle Glass Condos at Windmark Beach near Port St. Joe as invited guests to the Annual Forgotten Coast en Plein Air Art Show in May, 2015. I don't know how much the week stay was as the event paid for our accommodations since my husband was the featured speaker. We did not know what to expect before we arrived as we had never been to Florida's Gulf Coast before. We are from California and used to beaches with high surf and lots of seaweed.

We were just blown away with the beauty of the Gulf Coast area. In early May, the temperature was still perfect low 80's and low humidity. The long white sand beaches are just pristine. The sunsets over the water were sensational. The people in the small towns that dot the coastal area are warm and personable and full of great southern hospitality. The food was fabulous, especially the shrimp and oysters and fish.

This truly is the Forgotten Coast as there were just a few visitors that came for the art show. The roads are fast and easy to navigate. Everywhere you go, there are magnificent views. It's really a gem of an area. I imagine by June 1st the temperatures are in the 90's with lots of humidity, so try to go before then or after September if you want to avoid the heat.

Turtle Glass at Windmark Beach are condos that were built during or after the recession so that many condos are unsold. They are rented out by the week to vacationers. Our one-bedroom, one and half bathroom unit was practically brand new. It is on the third floor of the building. There are granite counters in the kitchen and a spa tub in the master bath. All amenities are included. The kitchen included dishes and cooking utensils. There is a Washer/Dryer in the kitchen which was very convenient. The furniture is contemporary and simple. We ate out most meals but did have coffee and breakfast in the condo. There is a Piggly Wiggly and Dollar Store to pick up anything you might need within 10 minutes.

Since the development was never fully occupied, there is no restaurant, cafe or market at Windmark Beach itself. Perhaps those retail spaces will be open at some point.

Our unit had views of the Gulf and the beach. The beach was a short walk away as was the swimming pool and lots of walking trails. This is a perfect place to bring a family for a quiet time together. There are bicycle rentals as well.

The staff was attentive. We asked for more towels and they were delivered right away.

If you want to come for a fun event, travel here in May when the locals hold the Forgotten Coast en Plein Air art show. There are plenty of fun events to watch artists paint and give interesting lectures on art. Also there are musical events and an outdoor BBQ in Apalachicola. There is also the opportunity to buy fabulous paintings of the surrounding areas at a wide range of prices. Website for information is: http://www.pleinairfl.com/

Room Tip: Rooms have Gulf views on upper floors.

Our unit keeps getting more expensive and shows a little wear and tear, but this will be our winter home again this year. We have found nothing that comes close to it. Clean, modern, spacious and secure - but what brings us back is the total package. An inexpensive gym, walking and biking paths, secluded beaches, very few people, NO traffic, manicured grounds and just minutes from Port St Joe which has all the amenities we need.
