My wife and I stopped to have lunch when our usual nearby restaurant was busy on a Sunday afternoon... The restaurant was well presented and the help very friendly... We ordered a soup bowl with a variety of beefs, and a dry noodles dish... For both dishes we opted for egg noodles... The usual noodle we see in most restaurants is rice noodles...
Will for sure return again (and again)... Not because of a busy "other" restaurant, but for these two newly found great dishes...

We decided to try this Ina Sunday afternoon when our original destination was closed on Sunday. Pulled in and saw tripadvisor reviews so we decided to try. Very quiet and pretty clean. Menu was huge but we were not familiar with Vietnamese food so we were rookies. We ordered number 2 spring rolls and did not realize it would be cold. Fresh ingredients but not what we expected. I ordered #82 chicken and broccoli with rice. Fresh ingredients but needed sauce to taste. All the sauces were on the table and needed. My husband got beef pho and he said it was "ok" but again we never had this type of food before so we found it hard to say whether it was good or not. My daughter got sweet and sour chicken with rice which she liked. We all drank water since soft drinks were $3 each. Our service was prompt and friendly. When we were leaving a woman came in looking for a different kind place and another patron told her "I eat here 3 times a week" eat here!!
Interesting place but not sure I would run back for Vietnamese food.

This was our first time dining at a Vietnamese restaurant and we had no idea what to expect. We took some slightly educated guesses when ordering. We started with a Pork & Shrimp Spring Roll with a delightful sweet soy and peanut dipping sauce. A nice light start to our meal. We then decided to order three dishes and share them all. We ordered the #10 Pho with Beef, the Shrimp Curry with Vegetables and the BBQ Lemon Chicken on Vermicelli. Every single dish was full of fresh flavor. We had more than enough food to make our dinner that night and lunch the next day. All of the flavors were amazing. I would order all four dishes again.

The Curry is blended with Coconut Milk, making it nice and balanced, not sharp like some curries can be. The BBQ Lemon Chicken was akin to a Teriyaki and was tender and full of BBQ Flavor. The vermicelli bed it was laid upon was served cold with an assortment of goodies surrounding the bowl...Cucumber, Peanuts, Bean Sprouts, Fresh Herbs, Carrots, etc. My only complaint on this dish is the amount of noodles is far greater than the other ingredients and the noodles are served cold. I would have preferred them warm. The Pho was amazing. The beef was still slightly raw where it was not immersed in the soup, but with a few splashes from the broth, the tender beef was cooked to perfection. The broth was a delicious light beef broth with hints of Fish Sauce. I could drink a whole bowl of just the broth. We accompanied our meal with a pot of Jasmine Tea which was hot and floral.

My only complaints about Mekong was the atmosphere. The restaurant is in need of a renovation. The age of the interior shows with mis-matched art with ragged edges, table numbers on the wall in different typestyles and just a general chaos to the decor. The chandeliers were pretty, but badly in need of a cleaning. Some were lit and some were not. Also, as you enter the restaurant, they have cases of oranges on the floor in cardboard boxes with hand written signs selling the fruit for 60 cents each. This seemed out of place for a restaurant. The ladies restroom was out of hand soap making me wonder if the staff are washing their hands properly.

Our server handled the entire dining room all by herself. We were amazed that she was able to take care of 7 tables as well as to-go walk-ins all by herself. She did a great job. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and will definitely go back again. You should give it a try!

We love Vietnamese food and have a huge number of amazing choices in the Portland area.
Mekong food and service is less than amazing. We went there on a weekday evening looking forward to a better than average experience because it seems the Mekong was located in a heavily Vietnamese populated part of town. Not so!
The goi cuon were less than well rolled( they came apart while we were eating them. The flavors were bland at best. The cio gia were different--not necessarily in a good way. There was only a minuscule amount of filling in those Vietnamese egg rolls. The pho tai nam gan was bland and the fresh beans and herbs they serve with the soup were limps and old.
There has to be better Vietnamese food in St. Pete because this certainly was it!

Came down from Illinois to visit and wanted real authentic Vietnamese food. This is the place to go. We had the chicken pho soup. is to die for. The portions are huge and the cost is reasonable. You won't go wrong with this restaurant.
