Trays of the freshest fish and seafood. We visited on three occasions and only wish we had such a place in Pittsburgh. The clerks were knowledgeable about each tray and able to help us, and others, on various preparations. Wonderful fresh sauces were also for sale.

After a morning of wandering the botanical gardens, we decided to try Walt's for lunch. Ordered a beer and their fish & chips as well as their grouper sandwich. The flounder fish & chips meal was excellent. Finally a place that coats the fish with something near perfect that makes the meal delicious. The grouper sandwich was also rated very good. Service was as it should be and ambience as well. Best of all, the prices were reasonable.

Perhaps if we'd been able to brave the crowd and the long wait to have a sit-down dinner the experience would have been more satisfying, as the platters being rushed to tables by servers looked appealing. However, we opted for takeout. I had the Sarasota Seafood Platter, which mostly consisted of breaded/fried scallops, shrimp, and crab. The flavor was bland and only a few lemon slices were included. (Lemon tends to enhance the flavor of seafood.) One of my companions found her fish portion -- described as a higher-quality type of grouper -- "tiny," and tartar sauce had been overlooked. The other diner in our party was given a minuscule serving of coleslaw as a side. I don't think I'd return if I were to be in the area again.

Fourth generation family-run seafood operation. Fresh seafood in generous portions.
Crab meat spread starts the meal right. Quibble: sides often not as from-from-the-stove as entrees.

This long established place just hums with activity, obviously very popular with the locals. Wide ranging menu to suit all seafood lovers, with a lovely fish pate and crackers as a complimentary starter. When in Sarasota, don't miss Walt's, you won't be disappointed.
