During a recent visit to the FSU campus, we tried Nefetari's for dinner one evening. Since we have both vegetarian and vegan family members, we were very happy to find a restaurant that has a wide variety of meals that would work for all of us.
The place is very close to the campus, and was only a short walk from our hotel. It wasn't too busy when we arrived and we were seated right away. The atmosphere is very cool - lots of interesting decor and a really open layout, with some booths, some tables in the center, and some "conversation pit" types of spaces where you could sit and eat.
Our server was friendly and attentive, and offered us samples of two house brews - non alcoholic drinks that were made with fresh ingredients. One was a ginger root brew, and the other was hibiscus. Both were delicious, and after the samples we ended up ordering the full=size versions of both flavors.
we were unfamiliar with the menu, so our server took the time to make some recommendations and to answer our questions. We ended up with a few different dishes that were all very good, including the homemade hummus appetizer, a honey eggplant dish, and Caribbean jerk-style tofu. The dishes were all so flavorful, and were made with quality ingredients.
There was a woman who stopped by our booth multiple times to check in on us, and to chat. I assumed she was the owner, or manager (or possibly both!). She told us that we had to try some dessert, because she and her family personally made all the cakes, pies and goodies on the menu. So we did have a couple items, even though we were really stuffed by then. There was a vegan pie, in particular, that was really outstanding, but both were good. The dessert selections vary, so there's always something new to try.
We left thoroughly satisfied with the meal and the experience. We wish Nefetari's was closer to where we live, because we would love to eat there again. But next time we are in the area, that's one of the first things we will do.
