We had a fantastic 4 night stay. Our converted rice barn accommodations were so lovely and very comfortable. We were totally pampered during our stay. James, the manager, made sure we had everything we needed. Joel and the rest of the staff couldn't have been nicer. Everything was extremely clean, including the pool. The food served was outstanding and varied. We did the walk around the estate and through the durian and rambutan orchards. Lots of beautiful birds and butterflies. Malihom is on our list for a return trip! Thank you, Malihom!

Room Tip: I can't imagine that any of their rooms would be bad!

I have to agree with a previous reviewer who said this place has so much potential.

We stayed here for only one night and regrettably, in the five weeks I have been in Malaysia, Singapore and Bali this was the hotel that offered the least value for money. It is in a beautiful location and it has echoes of being a special place in the past, but unfortunately for me it felt run down, in need of serious maintenance and it completely lacked atmosphere. For example, some background music at dinner would add some atmosphere and the only option for breakfast was eggs! Taking what we though was a nice walk round the complex before dinner just took us past empty barns and run down areas.

One thing I would say is that the staff on site were lovely, kind, accommodating and some of the nicest staff I have ever come across. We couldn't fault them, and if there is one redeeming feature about our stay it was them.

It's such a shame that this place seems to be existing on its good name as, for us, it came nowhere near our expectations and was ridiculously expensive compared to the far superior hotels elsewhere at a fraction of the cost. The reality is nothing like the impressive website. When we booked it I was sad we weren't staying a second night because we couldn't afford to but I'm glad we didn't in the end!

Unfortunately i felt that this place missed the opportunity to be really amazing. Its in a unique location, the general service staff are nice, food is nice. But the rooms were not clean and not maintained which is a big issue, also bathroom toiletries had not been properly replenished prior to our arrival. Felt quite let down unfortunately. The basics really need to be there. Do Take the time to enjoy the grounds - its the only partially redeeming factor.

Room Tip: face Georgetown for amazing sunrises - or the straits for sun setters

My girlfriend and I stayed here as her birthday treat between 20-22 May 2016 and we weren't disappointed. The road up to the estate is narrow in parts and winds back and forth to ascend the hill but once you reach the summit you are there. The staff are professional and friendly and offer fantastic service. The food menu has a great range of options and is prepared fresh for you once you order. A perfect, relaxing retreat in amongst the local natural habitat. Yes there are bugs and lizards, but you are staying in the forest. What more do you expect? The views are amazing and I would definitely recommend booking a massage for your stay too. We went on a weekend where it mostly rained, but that added to the enjoyment of our stay.

This place really exceeded my expectations. Living in Singapore, I'm always looking for weekends away that are easy to access. This resort manages to be totally away from it all and so serene, yet less than 30 mins drive from Penang airport.

Side note, advise you take the airport transfer. It's more than double the cost of a taxi, but the taxi will only drop you at the bottom of the steep hill, 2km from the resort.

We were warmly welcomed and looked after throughout. The staff ensured we had everything we needed and helped us plan our time, yet didn't overwhelm us. The place itself is fantastic. So well designed and with unique features that have clearly been thought about. There was only one other couple there as it was monsoon season, although it only rained the night we arrived so would definitely recommend this time still. However, even if the resort had been full, there are plenty of places for you to relax, the pool perhaps being the most pleasant.

Food is decent, if not a bit overpriced. Recommend the white fish in laksa. Steak was just ok. Breakfast was always great.

If given a choice of room, I would go for the sunset view, as you can sit in the common hammock it you also want a sunrise view.

Overall a fantastic break - we will be back!
