Wow!!! We had a small family reunion trip planned in Coeur d' Alene. This home worked out perfectly! The location is totally convenient, the price was definitely reasonable, and the house itself is super spacious. We had a lovely time.
The minute you drive down the long open driveway, you sigh and breathe out. Alone, secluded, peaceful, restful. Walk up on the wooden porch which stretches across the front of the entire house.....feel the breeze, take in the view. Open the door and walk inside. Everything is beautiful, colorful, with a most delightful kitchen large enough to bump into your relatives without being annoyed. Oh my....a baby grand piano. Book shelves filled with stories from the past and musical history. It is a dream home in the country until you sit on the sofa, or until you go to bed at night. Zero points. Hard. Downstairs is haunting. May not want to count that as a bedroom. It's a shame really....I would give this place five stars if they would just consider guest comfort. The house has it all... location, the relaxation of sitting on the front porch at night gazing at the stars, dining at the gigantic dining table, the incredible view from the toilet! Yes, the toilet, as you sit on it! This is a must: Owners. Change the bed mattresses and living room sofa. This home is crying for an update in comfort. Everything else is in place.
We arrived on Thursday night, 7/25, after getting lost looking for house--finally saw numbers on post, with supposed closed & locked gate being found open. Watch out for many deer jumping across road in front of car! Large, beautiful house, with many problems. There was only two beds, not 3 as advertised. The 3rd bedroom had a hide-a-bed, with a very thin mattress that let you feel springs & bars--my sister refused to sleep on it. I slept in the master bed(almost rolling off sloping side), wife on the other full-size bed(maybe enough for two--if you cuddle in middle), sister slept on couch in living room, and her husband slept on couch In basement. There were 5 remotes; but no way to make the TV work. My sister(immune disease) can only sleep a few hours AFTER watching TV until early morning. We called Vacasa Rentals; and a nice lady said it was a new rental, too late that night, but someone would call us on Friday. On Friday, Terry Nash(local Vacasa manager called, heard the problems; and quickly showed up at the house. He brought a big mattress to put on the hide-a-bed; and he tried to make the TV work, but was unable to find any programs. He spent a long time on the phone with Dish and the owner, finally getting the owner to order a new Dish installation; and Dish made an appointment for Saturday, 7/27--nice fast appointment. Terry finally found a way to get the DVD player to work--two boxes of OLD DVD's--had to go to CDA to rent modern DVD's; but sister had DVD's to watch Friday night. Terry was fantastic!!!--did all he could to help us with the rental problems!!
The living room & kitchen were large and incredible, with all needed accessories--nice two bathrooms, master with two sinks, lots of towels, etc.--obviously a very large fancy rich man's house-lots of closed space.
The Dish appointment was 12PM to 5PM on Saturday; so we lost another day from the family reunion waiting for Dish. A call at 1PM said they would arrive at 2-3; but he finally arrived at 5PM. The poor service man, at first, could do nothing, as the owner was not there to sign a new contract. After over an hour on the phone with the owner and Dish office, it was finally decided that my name was put on her Dish account; and I would be allowed to sign a new 2-years Dish agreement. The Dish man, Steve, then tried to drill a hole into the master bedroom, as owner requested, to install new receiver. He was unable to do so, as there were two large hornet nests on that wall. He then tried to find the cable box that should have been inside somewhere; but there were two many locked doors, so he could never find the box???
Steve finally just gave up on the new installation. He then tried to make the old Dish receiver work; but finally gave up on that(looked like 1940 version). He said he had never seen such an old receiver; and that it was probably all worn-out inside. Poor Steve did all he could(on the phone with Dish for hours); but had to just leave with nothing done--another day lost for us too!
Nice family wedding on Sunday; and DVD for rest of weekend. Ad said internet service; but all we found was a container in bedroom with MAC on front of it; but no instructions or visible way to use any computer??? Ad said ATV area too; but house surrounded by hay fields, under harvesting???(drive-way for ATV??).
We though Vacasa Rentals would at least offer some kind of refund; but not a word after we sent them this same info 10 day ago in answer to their e-mail request. Guess they figure it is better to ignore problems, as they also seem to ignore checking out new rentals for correct ad or working house???
Beautiful house to rent, if you don't mind the problems--call Terry to help with any problems! Good luck!!
