Let me start with the Pro's. Nice sized rooms that are somewhat themed. Think fetish/kink/leather. Nice tasty breakfast included on weekend's, sign up in advance. Nice location above 2 bars & a leather/fetish store. Within walking distance of The Leather Archives. Clothing optional. Large jacuzzi tub in one bathroom and separate open walled large shower bathroom with 2 shower heads. Yummy cookies in bowl on the kitchen counter. Kitchen access and living room access. Not a bad price for Chicago. Walking distance to the EL and bus stop outside. Comfortable round bed in our room. There are 5 rooms located on the 3rd floor of this guest house. Now for the Con's. Eric was very hard to contact and to talk with concerning our reservations. Was always busy with "things", IML etc. etc. etc. Called many times just trying to confirm our revs. He always said to call back when he wasn't so busy. OK? We had car, flight, tours revs confirmed but not for the hotel even tho we paid online. Arriving at the hotel, parking is extra to park in the back of $20 per day. Parking free on the street behind the hotel was not a problem. We thought for staying 5 nights parking could of been included on the back alley. Seemed no one knew we were arriving there. Door was locked with no way to contact except for a sign to check in at the...Let me start with the Pro's. Nice sized rooms that are somewhat themed. Think fetish/kink/leather. Parking free on the street behind the hotel was not a problem. We thought for staying 5 nights parking could of been included on the back alley. Seemed no one knew we were arriving there. Door was locked with no way to contact except for a sign to check in at the leather store next door. Went in there and no one knew what to do there. Eric was out doing "things" and running errands. He didn't tell anyone of our arrival booked months in advance. An employee of the leather store let us in and we got our key. We were left there at our room. We didn't meet the mgr Eric till the next day at the leather store. Most of our stay we were alone in the guest house which was fine. Weekend was booked with others. For hot water in the shower you must run the jacuzzi for a while till the hot water gets up to the showers. We had to clean the shared bathroom ourselves as pubic hair was all over the white floor. We saw a large clear plastic bucket on the wall with ear plugs and found out why. Don't expect to get to sleep any time early before 3 or 4 am as it's so noisy from the LOUD thumping 2 bars below and drunk homeless going thru the garbage in the alleys below the windows facing the alley. Of the 5 rooms I think the leather room would be more of one of the quieter rooms farthest from the alley. Most of the time we saw Eric in the leather store he seemed very drunk. 2nd night we told him we'd like to have our room cleaned and bedsheets changed. He said he would the next day and we even put the maid clean notice on our door. We got back the 3rd night and nothing had been done and notice was still on our door. We did notice other dirty towels and bedsheets in the hall by the kitchen on the floor. We went downstairs the highly smelly/stinky cigarette smelling hallways (full of trash bags) and stairs to let Eric know about our room. He seemed drunk again at 11pm and said he would do it now and looked perturbed. We said never mind. He did change them the next 4th night. Room had only been cleaned that 1 day of our 5 night stay. Also our room rates were higher on Sat and Sun than on the week days. OK. I felt for our 5 night stay it should/could of been the same rate for each day as we were the longest guest there too and only guest there except for Sat night. Our room closets and dresser drawers were full of chains, nuts and bolts and Christmas decor that we had to take out for out clothes. We had to ask for hangers in our closet too and rearrange the closet to fit our clothiers from what seemed to be a storage space for their boxes of stuff. Now we travel a lot and stay at gay hotels, B&B's to support the community but don't think we can return to this place mainly cuz of the noise of the bars and the non existent customer service. There are sling hooks in all the rooms too but an extra $25 charge for a sling to be put up. Eric's partner Mike was very friendly in the leather store and seemed upset at Erics behavior. We had to restock the toilet paper and the shower soap ourselves too. Just telling you like it was.More
