“GREAT Staff, Great Food. You MUST Go!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2012

The staff was very polite and attentive, the food excellent and we went back twice during our stay because we enjoyed it so much! The manager KNOWS how to run the place and the staff overlaps seamlessly.

“Very good”

Food excellent, a tad pricey but well presented and tasty. My steak was cooked to perfection and the wife's salad very good too. Nice atmosphere and good service, I'd go back!

“Great food and live Jazz but cost more than expected”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2012

We went to this place based on the reviews on trip advisor and we weren't disappointed, it's a gorgeous restaurant and the food was amazing, best veggie burger ever! However we were not prepared for the cost - the price range on trip advisor we thought would be per meal, not per main course. X2 mains with x2 alcoholic drinks plus tip came to $80 which we weren't planning on spending. That said, we got what we paid for so it was worth it. Definitely go to the place, but make sure you budget for the full meal - and alcohol is very expensive here.

“Not certain why so popular”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

I've been to Bandera several times because others in my group like it -- but I just don't get its popularity. Maybe it’s because the location is prime; it’s on Michigan Ave in the heart of the shopping district. It also may be because people love sitting on the second floor looking out the windows at Michigan Ave. Finally it could be the live jazz combos that play on weekends. (They are very good.) But I can tell you, it’s certainly not the food. Gave it another try this weekend. The starter list is limited to few choices, some tortilla chips with a small dollop of guac and small dollop of cold queso, a rather unpleasant tasting spinach dip and a roasted artichoke. Nearly every entree appears to come with a side of escabeche -- the company that designed the menu just must love escabeche. Our cornbread (which is an additional charge -- there are no complementary pass outs here) was overcooked and most stuck to the pan. My barbeque ribs were good, but arrived cold, and the fish was overcooked. They have only 2 desserts. They really push the "banana cream pie" which is not a banana cream pie at all. It's sliced raw bananas and mounds of whipping cream with caramel sauce drizzled over it and some chocolate crumbles tossed in. What you get in your mouth is mostly the taste of whipping cream and raw sliced banana -- it’s a "have you tried eating this yourself?" moment! Most entree prices are in the high $20's to high $30s and we never get out of there without a bill that's well over $130. There are too many really good restaurants in Chicago for this place to be so packed and so busy.
