We were looking for a hotel located near the Cadillac Theater and the PrivateBank theater and this Hyatt fit the bill. There are several restaurants in the area and in terms of access to what we wanted to do in Chicago, it was great. The hotel itself is pretty ordinary. The lobby is extremely plain ( a couch and a few chairs). The valet doubles as the bellman which wasn't very helpful since he was still busy trying to park the car after we'd already checked in. There weren't any luggage carts available so we had to pack-mule our luggage up to our room. The front desk staff was unremarkable...not friendly, not rude...just there. Hard rock/grunge rock was playing when we checked in.
The decor of the hotel is very sleek and minimalistic. We had a corner suite which had a king bed, wing-back chair, two night stands (no drawers) one console that held the TV (no drawers) and a closet with some shelves, several hangers, an ironing board and iron and safe. In the bathroom there was a tub, separate shower and double-sink. You'd better know who you're traveling with VERY well because there's no door that separates the bedroom from the bathroom. There are frosted glass doors in front of the shower and in front of the toilet so the bathroom doesn't feel very private. There are some shelves and no drawers in the bathroom.
In the living area there were two couches, a coffee table (with shelves) and a small, round table and two chairs. In the entry area was a dresser with several shelves (behind closed doors)...not a very handy location for clothing, but we were glad that we at least had that space for clothes.
We had four in our suite (our daughters slept on the couches because we wanted the extra space for them to spread out to do homework) so drawers and shelves were at a premium. If you're going to be in town for a while, plan ahead and bring some Command hooks for yourself.
Housekeeping was great! They replenished every depleted supply and gave us the correct amount of towels for four guests.
If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. A fire-station is a few blocks away and we heard sirens often through the night. It didn't bug me, but my girls had a hard time sleeping with the "city noise". The shades did a pretty good job of blocking the sun. I found the linens and the bed to be very comfortable.
I'm unsure if we would return here again. The proximity to the theaters can't be beat but the hotel itself needs a furnishings re-design to tempt me to stay here again.
