Girlfriend and I explored the garden of the gods with our two dogs. The rock formations are breathtaking and the paths are easy to navigate. I recommend going during the week when it's not that busy.

This is a bit out of the way but it is definitely worth making your way here. There are numerous trails to walk are well as the incredible views of the rock formations. The trails are generally well laid out and not too difficult to walk. There are a couple of things to watch however. The road up to the main car park is a bit narrow at places and there are very few passing places so it may be a bit tricky if there are a lot of cars about. Secondly, the Indian trail through the woods is a good walk but the trail is very hard to follow in some spots as there are no markings at all.

We live about twenty minutes from the Garden of the Gods and share hospitality with our vacation rental, the Apartment at 217. We have been to the Garden of the Gods many times but get to see it again and again through our guests eyes. It never grows old! it changes with the seasons and is a beautiful, easy hike up to the lookout places. There are park benches along the path that is an easy hike. The markers tell the story of how the rock formations came to be and the scenic overlook is beautiful as you look from the top and see the Shawnee National Forest sprawling below. If you have extra time to relax, just sit and enjoy the scenery, take a book....you will want to linger!

The park is very well marked with trails and picnic areas plenty of outdoor restrooms. The rock formations are a must to see. You can climb on them and the views are amazing. Great place for all ages young as well as old like myself. Would recommend a visit for everyone great family outing.

We detoured to check this out on the way back to Chicago (including a detour to use the Cave-In-Rock free ferry). Such a great stop! The rock formations are breathtaking...quite unique. Not just the macro views, but seeing patterns in the stone from different ways iron-infused and other stone erode over time.
