If you like wine, good roads however not straight, trees, friendly hostess and a unique Inn to stay. This is it. Malcolm and Loraine will give you a positive feeling and experience once you walk through the front door. They both like to share ideas and are great salespeople for the area. Interesting story on how they got there and a passion for delivering a memorable time. Inn very unique with straw walls. Breakfasts unbelievable. Rooms are great and we liked out side deck. Nice area to hike and listen to birds. 20 plus winery's located in easy driving distance. Nice grounds and we liked their Great room to play cards. Don't know what to say other than you have missed a lifetime experience if you do not meet Malcolm and Loraine and experience a real IL Inn. only thing you need to know is ATT cell phones do not work here. They are working on it. However we did not miss our phones.

Room Tip: Get a room towards woods and listen to the birds and tree frogs.

Stayed in suite #2 of the Inn. Photos online don't do this place justice. Suite felt roomier in person. Malcolm and Loraine served us delicious homemade breakfasts with most, if not all, local/organic ingredients both mornings we were there. The Makanda Inn is nestled in a mostly wooded area just minutes away from Giant City State Park, putting us near a number of hikes we wanted to do there. The hikes we did were at the suggestion of Malcolm and Loraine and we loved all of them! A beautiful area and the Inn was the perfect home-base for us.

Room Tip: I believe kitchenettes and microwaves are in the cottages but they are not in the inn.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay with us. Better than expected is always the reaction we are after when our guests arrive and check out their accommodations. Whether staying at the B&B Inn in a Suite or one of our 3 Cottages. We are very lucky to be located where we are! So many of our guests enjoy all that Giant City State Park offers and it's just on the other side of the road at our driveway. We hope to see you back sometime!

This was our first trip to Southern IL. We wanted to find a nice cabin/cottage rather than a hotel to stay for a few nights. We came across MaKanda Inn and the setting was perfect. The lodge itself was very pretty and the owners were very nice. We did not have meals here, but would next time. The cottages are two level, small but cozy. Beautiful view from balcony of the forest and large bathroom on second level. Cute kitchen area and small refrig for food. Very clean and well maintained. We did not have a problem with noise. My only two comments are that the winding staircase was steep and narrow and would not work well if you have a disability. Also the TV was very small although there was room on the wall for a larger screen. The cottage was near Giant City State Park and Shawnee Wine Trail. I believe a 45 minute drive to parts of Shawnee State Park and about 90 minutes to Garden of the Gods. We saw deer and much wildlife from our balcony. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend if in the area. A great retreat for couples.

Your review is very much appreciated! The property was designed to be a unique lodging experience. We often hear, "So much better than a hotel stay" from our guests!
For future booking reference: The Inn operates as a B & B and those guests enjoy breakfast included downstairs each morning with their stay. The Cottage Rental Rates do not include a breakfast meal at the Inn.
We are always happy to answer questions prior to booking for our new guests! We want to ensure they understand the differences between our two distinct lodging options here at Makanda Inn & Cottages and will be very happy and comfortable with their lodging choice.
So glad you mentioned the many activities and attractions here in Southern Illinois, we are centrally located for the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail and many of the other places to see here. We have maps on our website to help guests plan their trip activities in advance. We look forward to your next stay with us!

It was great to meet you both and we appreciate the great review too! We hear your comment about "NOT wanting to leave" almost daily and "a 2-night stay is not enough time to see everything" for sure.
Come see us again!
