“Tranquil location & cosy home”
Reviewed 3 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Our family enjoyed a relaxing stay in this beautiful comfortable home. Amazing views of Emu Bay perfect for strolls on the beach. The log fire was wonderful on the cold nights! The home was beautifully decorated and clean.

Thank you so much for your prompt review. We are so glad you had a great holiday, enjoyed the beach and were cosy on those reportedly freezing nights of this cold winter, the double glazed Windows certainly keep the house cosy

“This really is something else!”
Reviewed 3 July 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We spent four nights at this idyllic venue at the end of autumn.

This place was a real surprise. It looked great on-line, but it's not until you get there that you see just how wonderful it really is.

It combines both the sleek and the modern, while fitting in with the nature around it. Beautiful timber floors, quality leather furniture, modern kitchen with splashbacks, indoor and outdoor dining options, and just a short walk (20m) from the top of the dunes. It has everything you need to cook sumptuous meals at home should you want, yet it's only a 15 min drive from Kingscote if you want supplies or choose to eat out.

The property is also pretty much 'off the grid'. No mains power, mains gas, or wired telephone. The owners (Brian and Kris) have prepared well, with bottled gas, a full solar system with battery storage and generator backups. The only concession to this is that the property doesn't have any high 'spike' use power devices (microwave, quick boil kettle or toaster), but again the owners have again prepared well with quality kitchen appliances to get around any issues. Even with it being overcast most of our time there, the generator didn't need to come on while we were there!

Neither Optus or Vodafone mobiles work there either, so it's Telstra only. The other real bonus is WiFi - not only is it free, but it's so fast! (for the techies out there, I think it must be some sort of local wireless NBN-type service). We had multiple devices on it, uploaded lots of hi-res photos with speeds even better than home!

There is a 500m drive down from the main road to the entrance. It's a dirt road (we never saw anyone else on it), and you'll need to take it slowish, but it's fine and safe for any standard car. Again the owners have done a great job with their own driveway and parking area around the house, with the house about 200m from the road entrance. And there is wildlife all the way from then main road to the house - wallabies, kangaroos, possums, etc - lots of great photo opportunities too!

From the top of the dunes, it's a quick walk straight down to the beach where you'll often find dolphin pods swimming regularly. Great swimming beach in summer too!

Also, Brian and Kris are the nearest neighbours at around 500m away, but you can't even see their place, so it really provides ideal, complete solitude.

Emu Bay is a small village on the north side of the island, with no shops or services You'll either need to bring everything with you or be prepared to eat out at night! We combined the two! It's also a great base to explore the entire island. Brian has worked in tourism on the island for many years, and can happily advise on all the options available.

I could not recommend this place more highly.

“Best holiday rental ever!”
Reviewed 24 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Brian & Kris were fabulous to deal with and answered all emails promptly. A Dune Escape did not disappoint - it was the best holiday rental we have ever stayed in. It was clean and well appointed with everything we needed. All of the furniture and accessories were of excellent quality and well kept. The property is stunning with amazing views from every window. A short path leads to a magical view of Emu Bay beach and there's steps down the dune to access the beach. We had regular visits from resident wallabies, Blue Fairy Wrens and Flame Robins. It's a nature lovers delight and we will certainly be coming back!

“Amazing Stay”
Reviewed 11 June 2016 for a stay in March 2014

Just a wonderful place to stay. The place is very clean and has all that you need for relaxation. The small walk up the path is highly recommended with a bottle of wine and some nibbles for pure bliss. Just a stunning view! Will return.

“Fantastic place to stay on Kangaroo Island - wilderness experience with modern comforts”
Reviewed 12 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Brian gave extremely clear instructions (and a hand drawn map!) on how to find the Dune escape. The home is lovely, well furnished and beautifully built in the midst of wilderness, but quite easily accessible (15min drive) to Kingscote town.

The Wallaby Run path leading up to the home is just as impressive as the Flinders Chase national park in the amount of wildlife we saw on the road from Wallabies, Kangaroos to Echidnas.

The internet was fast, firewood plenty, BBQ handy and water and electricity consistent. We appreciate every single aspect of this home, and had a brilliant family reunion. Brian is a lovely man, warm and friendly. The tips he gave on places to see around were brilliant.

Absolutely recommend this place for anyone visiting Kangaroo Island.
