Just returned from a 7 night stay and really enjoyed the Royal Palm. We read many of the Tripadvisor reviews on the Royal Palm so we knew exactly what to expect and what not to expect. The views from the rooms are awesome (beach, harbor, mountains and houses dotted on the hills). We asked for a room on high floor based on reviews and that worked out for us.

The great room room was huge, beds were very nice and appliances and cabinets/countertops looked rather new - hotels age in dog years so that was nice. Water pressure in shower as advertised -- not great.

One of the great things was that everyday at whatever time we were able to get a beach spot with a built-in thatch umbrella with as many chairs we wanted. They were positioning so as not to be right on top of each other like some other resorts. There is no beach-side service but you can walk to pool to get drink and food. Beach was good not great for snokeling - we saw all types of fish by swimming around rocks although not as crystal clear as some other places. Buy a pair of water shoes (some rocks in the water) and a cheap raft in the gift store. Great tropical breezes and temperature never went above 90 -- much better than NYC area in the summer.

With the exception of just one bartender at the pool bar working in the afternoon (she was not friendly AT ALL and should really not be in that position) everyone else was helpful and friendly.

Guests were Dutch, French, Canadien and American which added a nice diversity to the visit.

Rented a car for the week - watch out for the guys on cycles (some are crazy) and some of the roads have seen better days. Pinel Island was really picturesque and the , Loterie Farm (restaurant and pool look like a spread from a shelter mag) and we did the adventure course with zip line -- be ready for a work out - not just zip-line. Hop from beach to beach -- Friars Bay was like a postcard.

Took the sunset cruise on the Passat (sailing vessel) in the harbor which was fun.

Tip: Use some bug spray for the gnats in the main lobby (they bite and the bites really itch). You will spend some time there because that is where the wifi is in the hotel.

Thanks to the manager and staff for a good stay. It is obvious they are reading the reviews over the years and making the improvements they can to make it better.

Thank you for posting your review of our resort, and providing tips about the area to future guests. We’re delighted to hear that we were able to accommodate your request for a room on a high floor, and that our accommodations (save for the water pressure in the shower) and amenities met your needs. While we are happy to read that most of our staff was able to provide excellent customer service, we will definitely address internally, the lack of customer service shown to you by the bartender at the pool bar. We are also in the process of addressing the issue you mentioned about the water pressure in your shower. Thank you again for sharing your review with other guests, and we hope to see you again real soon!

Just got back today from a week at the Royal Palm Beach Resort. We stayed in 526 and loved the view! All the rooms are ocean front but the best views are from higher up. Upon check in I mentioned to a member of the staff that my husband and I were celebrating our 35th anniversary. Within an hour of our check in, a beautiful fruit basket with snacks and wine was delivered from the resort. What a nice surprise! The beach was beautiful and very calm, but a bit rocky. We did a lot of snorkeling in the beautiful aqua water. The staff was very helpful, giving us lots of tips on places to go and restaurants to eat in. The location was the best as we were walking distance to lots of great restaurants and also a very clean modern food store. Groceries are very pricey so be prepared! We had a problem with the air conditioning leaking in the bedroom closet. We called the front desk and they had 2 men in our room to fix the problem within 10 minutes. We had the 2 bedroom suite that we traded for in our timeshare and we were very pleased with the condition of the rooms and also the cleanliness. The beds and pillows are among the most comfortable we have slept in any timeshare. Right across the street from the Royal Palm is Lee's Roadside Grill. It was a really fun place that had live entertainment and delicious food at a reasonable price.Make sure you have the ribs! They were yummy! What I found interesting is that all the beaches are public and you can go to any resort and use the beach. We rented a car and went to Divi Little Beach and loved the beach there as well. We also went to the French side to Orient Bay. The waves are high and my family loved jumping them. All in all it was a great week at the Royal Palm and we would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: The best views are from the higher floors.

If you like to be at the center of activity, this is a great place to stay. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. No need to spend $400 to rent a car for a week.

We went to 3 other beaches and liked the one at Royal Palm the most.

Room was large and the furnishings were nice. Appliances were 3 years old. Every room is front to back and has balcony overlooking ocean.

Staff was friendly, and when we needed assistance they were at our room very quickly.

Beds and pillows were the best of any hotel I've every stayed at. No problems sleeping in those beds (usually it takes me a few nights to get accustomed to a new bed/pillow).

Overall a pleasant stay and experience.

Room Tip: Request floor 3-5 room 20-27

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Royal Palm. The resort has very nice, spacious rooms and extremely friendly staff. We stayed on the 5th floor and had a great view. The resort's beach is very calm and is perfect for snorkeling. If you snorkel out by the tip of the rocks, you will see all kinds of colorful fish. The location of the resort is perfect. Countless restaurants within walking distance. We also walked to the grocery store a couple minutes away to keep a few snacks in the room and stock up on bottled water. Go visit the bartender Renee at Prive nightclub above the grocery store and tell him Jason & Samantha from NYC sent you. He took care of us!

The Cabana Restaurant onsite is very cost friendly and the food is pretty good. Perfect for lunch when spending the day at the pool. The drinks are also quite good. As I said, the staff is very friendly, but one thing that was hard for us (coming from NYC) to get used to is the "slowness" of the service. I don't want this to come across as too much of a complaint, though. I think it is just apart of the island culture. Although sometimes it was frustrating that we had to remind the bartender(s) a couple times what we ordered. They definitely do not have the attention to detail, but we didn't let it get to us since we were on vacation. This type of service definitely would not fly in the city, though.

The activities at the resort were pretty fun, including bingo, duck racing, and water aerobics. The instructor for the water aerobics definitely made it an easy workout on the eyes (if you know what I mean!) We won a round of bingo and the prize was a "buy one get one free" island tour, which was awesome! We got to tour the island on an air-conditioned bus that made multiple stops on the Dutch and French sides, including Philipsburg, various beaches, Marigot and Sunset Bar & Grill (on Maho Beach where you can see the planes arriving/departing). Even without the prize, it is a great deal at only $16 per person for a 5 hour tour.

We attended the Diamonds Resort timeshare sales pitch to get a $50 gift card to Toppers (a restaurant within a 3 minute walk from the resort). We went into the presentation knowing we would not be making a purchase. This was my first timeshare sales presentation, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Again, the pace was excruciatingly slow. It was also frustrating that we were told it'd be an hour long but we did not get out of there until 2 hours later, and that was only because we ended it early by telling our sales rep we needed to leave. I am sure saying it is only an hour is their technique to increase participation, but it is definitely a little sleazy tactic.

The Royal Palm is definitely a good choice if staying in St. Maarten. It also helps that it is only a 5 minute drive from the airport. One tip: if this is your first time, I would recommend renting a car. This was our first time on the island and we did not rent a car. The cab fares definitely get pricey. You'll want to spend a good amount of time on both sides of the islands because they are so different. Next time we visit the island, we will probably try staying on the French side to really get a good comparison. But if we do stay on the Dutch side again, the Royal Palm it is!

Room Tip: All rooms have beach view so I don't think you can go wrong in any room.
