Just got back today from a week at the Royal Palm Beach Resort. We stayed in 526 and loved the view! All the rooms are ocean front but the best views are from higher up. Upon check in I mentioned to a member of the staff that my husband and I were celebrating our 35th anniversary. Within an hour of our check in, a beautiful fruit basket with snacks and wine was delivered from the resort. What a nice surprise! The beach was beautiful and very calm, but a bit rocky. We did a lot of snorkeling in the beautiful aqua water. The staff was very helpful, giving us lots of tips on places to go and restaurants to eat in. The location was the best as we were walking distance to lots of great restaurants and also a very clean modern food store. Groceries are very pricey so be prepared! We had a problem with the air conditioning leaking in the bedroom closet. We called the front desk and they had 2 men in our room to fix the problem within 10 minutes. We had the 2 bedroom suite that we traded for in our timeshare and we were very pleased with the condition of the rooms and also the cleanliness. The beds and pillows are among the most comfortable we have slept in any timeshare. Right across the street from the Royal Palm is Lee's Roadside Grill. It was a really fun place that had live entertainment and delicious food at a reasonable price.Make sure you have the ribs! They were yummy! What I found interesting is that all the beaches are public and you can go to any resort and use the beach. We rented a car and went to Divi Little Beach and loved the beach there as well. We also went to the French side to Orient Bay. The waves are high and my family loved jumping them. All in all it was a great week at the Royal Palm and we would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: The best views are from the higher floors.

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Palm Beach Resort. It was clean, friendly and had wonderful pool, restaurant and glorious beach right on site. We would definitely stay again and definitely return to St. Maarten. Wow!

If you like to be at the center of activity, this is a great place to stay. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. No need to spend $400 to rent a car for a week.

We went to 3 other beaches and liked the one at Royal Palm the most.

Room was large and the furnishings were nice. Appliances were 3 years old. Every room is front to back and has balcony overlooking ocean.

Staff was friendly, and when we needed assistance they were at our room very quickly.

Beds and pillows were the best of any hotel I've every stayed at. No problems sleeping in those beds (usually it takes me a few nights to get accustomed to a new bed/pillow).

Overall a pleasant stay and experience.

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Royal Palm. The resort has very nice, spacious rooms and extremely friendly staff. We stayed on the 5th floor and had a great view. The resort's beach is very calm and is perfect for snorkeling. If you snorkel out by the tip of the rocks, you will see all kinds of colorful fish. The location of the resort is perfect. Countless restaurants within walking distance. We also walked to the grocery store a couple minutes away to keep a few snacks in the room and stock up on bottled water. Go visit the bartender Renee at Prive nightclub above the grocery store and tell him Jason & Samantha from NYC sent you. He took care of us!

The Cabana Restaurant onsite is very cost friendly and the food is pretty good. Perfect for lunch when spending the day at the pool. The drinks are also quite good. As I said, the staff is very friendly, but one thing that was hard for us (coming from NYC) to get used to is the "slowness" of the service. I don't want this to come across as too much of a complaint, though. I think it is just apart of the island culture. Although sometimes it was frustrating that we had to remind the bartender(s) a couple times what we ordered. They definitely do not have the attention to detail, but we didn't let it get to us since we were on vacation. This type of service definitely would not fly in the city, though.

The activities at the resort were pretty fun, including bingo, duck racing, and water aerobics. The instructor for the water aerobics definitely made it an easy workout on the eyes (if you know what I mean!) We won a round of bingo and the prize was a "buy one get one free" island tour, which was awesome! We got to tour the island on an air-conditioned bus that made multiple stops on the Dutch and French sides, including Philipsburg, various beaches, Marigot and Sunset Bar & Grill (on Maho Beach where you can see the planes arriving/departing). Even without the prize, it is a great deal at only $16 per person for a 5 hour tour.

We attended the Diamonds Resort timeshare sales pitch to get a $50 gift card to Toppers (a restaurant within a 3 minute walk from the resort). We went into the presentation knowing we would not be making a purchase. This was my first timeshare sales presentation, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Again, the pace was excruciatingly slow. It was also frustrating that we were told it'd be an hour long but we did not get out of there until 2 hours later, and that was only because we ended it early by telling our sales rep we needed to leave. I am sure saying it is only an hour is their technique to increase participation, but it is definitely a little sleazy tactic.

The Royal Palm is definitely a good choice if staying in St. Maarten. It also helps that it is only a 5 minute drive from the airport. One tip: if this is your first time, I would recommend renting a car. This was our first time on the island and we did not rent a car. The cab fares definitely get pricey. You'll want to spend a good amount of time on both sides of the islands because they are so different. Next time we visit the island, we will probably try staying on the French side to really get a good comparison. But if we do stay on the Dutch side again, the Royal Palm it is!

Room Tip: All rooms have beach view so I don't think you can go wrong in any room.

I stayed here during a family vacation during April 2012. The hotel location itself was excellent; the hotel was beachfront on Simpson Bay, with the beach itself being surprisingly uncrowded. The hotel was also literally across the street from several restaurants and a 2 minute walk to a large grocery store. The food from the poolside restaurant was also delicious and comparably priced to other restaurants in the area. The exterior of the resort seemed a little outdated, but the interiors were very nice. The bedrooms each had king-sized beds & a CRT TV (later to be upgraded to flatscreens the day we left!). We had a nice kitchen that was well stocked with a dishwasher, coffeemaker, blender, toaster, utensils, dinnerware, drinkware, cookware, etc. Dishcloths and detergent were provided. One of the only disappointments was that the bathrooms did not have bathtubs, only large showers. I later realized that it was probably the best for cleanliness (so much sand gets dragged back in), but if you have small children, you'll have to plan accordingly. There was a balcony with a table and 2 chairs, and entrances from both the master bedroom and the living room. The large windows gave us a good view of the bay from pretty much every part of the unit except the second bedroom and bathrooms. All in all, it was perfect for a family vacation, and we would definitely come here again. If you're looking for a secluded luxury hotel for an intimate romantic vacation though, this is probably not the hotel for you. Maid service is only every 5 days unless paid for upon request, and there are lots of families with children running around (which we loved, because we had a 2 year old with us). Some people also commented on the quality of construction at the property. One night, when it rained especially hard, some water did seep in through the window in the living room. However, it was easily mopped up, and given the convenient location of the hotel and the other amenities, we were ok with that one little incident. Wifi in the lobby and pool area were free, but you still have to ask the front desk for the username and password.

Room Tip: My suggestion is to ask for a room that is NOT on the 1st floor. My sister's family had a unit on the first floor, which was invaded by many mosquitoes compared to our unit on the second floor.
