Review of The BBQ Shack

The BBQ Shack
Ranked #5 of 38 Restaurants in Paola
Price range: US$10 - US$40
Cuisines: Barbecue
Description: The BBQ SHACK sits approximately 60 ppl at tables and we can squeeze in about 10 more at the bar. After ordering up an Old Man Kelsey's BBQ sandwich or a Leon's Combo, along with some Ernest Tea, feel free to roam around the restaurant to check out various memorabilia from The Andy Griffith Show. What, do you ask, does the Andy Griffith Show have to do with BBQ? ABSOLUTELY NOTHIN! But just like our award winning BBQ, you won't find this memorabilia anywhere else but here!

Best BBQ I have ever ate! I would drive 50 miles out of my way to eat here! I had the burnt ends. So good. The baked potatoes salad is really good.

Bring your appetite, you'll leave full. My family lives near this BBQ place which has been featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and it deserves your visit. Prices are slightly more affordable than most other BBQ places in KC, but portions are bigger and meat is tastier, lots of good smoked flavor. We took out smoked turkey, ribs and brisket on this last visit, plus a couple of sides and everything was excellent and fresh. Be sure to get plenty of sauce to do it the KC way! Have a beer while you wait, it does take 10-15 minutes for a to-go order, but well worth it. And, the ribs here are not those puny things you get in the grocery store, they are BIG. And, they have rotating specials so check their website for prices, the best day for ribs is when they have the cheap full-slabs. I have had the fried jalapenos in the past too, and they are great even for someone who isn't in to many fried foods. Suggestions to the owners: Get a few more LOCAL beers, and expand your hours on Sunday.

Everything is great here. You can't go wrong with any of the BBQ items, but don't be afraid to expand your selection. Fantastic non BBQ includes BLT sandwiches with their own smoked bacon; Pork Tenderloin Sandwich; Corned Beef Rubens with their homemade sauerkraut and fantastic burgers. Onion Strings are to die for and don't leave without trying the Atomic Buffalo Turds. You can't go wrong here.

This is a very nice little restaurant tucked next to the UPS and hotel area and Sonic. .Really good food and the help are excellent. You can call and get it to go or sit there and eat. Really cute atmosphere. And the chicken fired steak is amazing if BBQ isn't you favorite the potatoes and gravy are delicious . Good for all ages nice clean and friendly.
