It is a park with a view of the town where there were great views of buffalo 175 years ago. Nice spot for a picnic or a smoke.
Located right off the highway.

If you are on your way to Fort Larned, it's a nice side stop to better understand part of the Santa Fe Trail history. The natural rock outcropping (which used to be much taller) was a guide post for pioneer travelers.

We loved the history at this location. We wouldn't drive hours to get here, but if in the area a must see. Just imagine standing in that same spot years ago and watch the wagon trains and Indians. Wow!

I grew up around this area and used to love going up to the rock and watching the sun set. Such a beautiful view. I even thought about getting married here. My dad used to tell me stories about the indian's, how they used this area as a look out. You can see for miles on this hill. I always used to wish I could find an arrowhead. Nicely mowed and peaceful.

The top of this rock was mined before the locals realized its historical significance, but settlers by the score passed by this austere landmark cropping up from the Kansas prairie, carving their names for posterity. One can climb the observation tower, with its height level with the original top of the rock, and step back in time to a day when prairie schooners cut through the tall grasses waving in the breeze. Look out for miles now and see the changes civilization has brought to the land on one side, and calm grasslands on the other. It is a windy locale, so bundle up if you visit in the fall or winter. There are several signs telling the history of the area, and a light climb will get you up close and personal to names carved in the rock, by both pioneers, and people of much more recent times.
