My father found this resort on the internet, we were looking for a week away at a lake resort within 7 hour drive from Chicago. We had never been to the Kentucky Lakes area, and since it was only a 6.5 hour drive we thought we would give it a try. We saw that there was a waterpark (Venture River Waterpark) close by the resort, and since we have two small kids we thought we would give it a try. We don't own a boat, but most if not all of the other guests at the resort seemed to own their own boat. We knew we would probably rent a boat for 3-4 of the days we were visiting so we decided to shop around, I would recommend you do this as you will find good deals at other marinas. However, if those other marina's boats are booked then the Buzzard Rock marina does offer a Jon boat, Bass Boat, and Pontoons. We did rent the Jon boat for two days we visited (It has a 9.9hp Mercury and a trolling motor) and found it to meet our needs of fishing close by the resort.
We stayed in one of their four "Resort Rooms" which is basically like an extended stay hotel room. It has two double beds, pullout couch, two side chairs, dresser, kitchen table, stovetop, 3/4 size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kitchen sink, and full bathroom. In addition, there was a propane grill on the deck. The decks offer a great view of the lake, with a picnic table so we had breakfast and dinner on them each day. We bring our own paper products (plates, cups, flatware) as we don't like to be bothered doing dishes. We did use the pots and pans, and they were fine. We brought a sharp knife and can opener which turned out to be a blessing as our unit didn't have a sharp knife or functioning can opener. They don't provide bedding for the pullout couch so be sure to bring some if you think you'll need to use it. The only maid service they provide each day is towel service, garbage pick-up (leave full bag outside of unit), and replenish the toilet paper. The resort rooms and cabins are all located right near the pool which was nice (the pool has a hot tub, but it wasn't working, and doesn't appear as though it has worked in a while)
The restaurant and bar looked busy each night (we didn't visit them so I can't review) and the music on Friday/Saturday sounded good (70s-2000s rock themes). The store at the resort carries lots of t-shirts and souvenirs' but not much in the way of food items (bags of ice, pop, beer, and ice cream bars is all they sell). There is a Food Giant located about 10 minutes from the resort, however we went to the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Princeton, KY about 20-25 minutes from the resort and stocked up on what we needed for the week. The resort staff is VERY friendly and helpful, and we would visit again, but hopefully with our own boat.
