Description: J.R. Maxwell & Co. is an independent restaurant, not a chain. Yes, we are the place where everybody knows your name. Our black angus steaks are all cut here at Maxwells. We even cook our own potato chips and make our own cheese sticks and onion rings. Our homemade deserts include creme Brulee, Key Lime pie, frozen peanut butter pie, and Indian Pudding. All of our salad dressings are made here, our soups are homemade, and Our homemade sauces include Newberg, supreme, tartar, cocktail, and an Alfredo sauce to die for.

Bath tends to close up early in the off season so we ended up at this restaurant/bar and were not disappointed. We ate in the bar and had a great time with the bartender who served the drinks and the food as well. It was a great time. Quiet because of the time of day and off season so not sure about needing reservations on a weekend or in season.

Fresh salads, entrees of blackened salmon and veal piccata were all excellent. Very attentive waitress, Kelsie. Wife said it was one of the better pieces of salmon she’s had. Veal was breaded and cooked perfectly. To top it off the two-fer entree special made it very reasonable.

We recently stayed in Bath and chose this restaurant for an early dinner. We had called to reserve a table as we were 7. The table was ready when we arrived. The waitress was pleasant. We ordered from a menu that had a little bit of everything. Our group enjoyed their meals. None of the meals were anything special nor presented elegantly. The food was good but nothing outstanding. I did have a bowl of their clam chowder which was ok but a bit too salty. The corn chowder was enjoyed by two family members who said it was delicious. Overall, the family enjoyed their meal. It’s atmosphere and decor are pleasant. Staff was pleasant but perhaps overworked. Prices were a bit high for what it was.

Unfortunatley was reccomended here for the lobster, which they ran out of by 7 pm, and tourist season had been over for a month. Bartender was overwhlemed and behind, took a great deal of time after we sat to be noticed.

Cozy restaurant in downtown Bath was a delight. Welcoming interior along with a friendly waitress and good food. Our son had the chowder which was filled with seafood and very tasty. I had the lobster roll which was delicious and my husband had the fried fish sandwich. For the three of us with two beers it was approx $70.00 but after all this is Maine where fresh seafood is expensive. Very nice lunch tho.
