This places has a couple of rooms it rents out in vacation season. We reserved one and it was confirmed but hen we arrived we found the manager/owner had given away our room reservation to someone else he knew without even talking to us beforehand. What an inconsiderate policy toward paying guests! He gave us each a glass of cheap wine when we dined as recompense for our given away room. But it cost us a good deal more to then find another place nearby (not easy in that tiny town) to stay that night. Unacceptable owner behavior. Will (never) try to return.

We were met by Fran, our hostess, who immediately made us feel at home. Immediately treated us to a wonderful table with a view. The menu had something for everybody. My companion and I had salads that were great and decided on their special hamburger which was absolutely perfectly done and one of the best we have ever had. Had the house wine with our meals and it was excellent. Their bred is die for. Had cappuccino "perfect" and the desert was a thing of wonder. My companion had cheesecake with blue berries and I had the apple tart and both were "superb". The service4 was extraordinary, thank you Fran,. We also met the chef who is a young lady who did a superb job. Will go again often and I highly recommend same.

The speciality here seems to be local or organic food, and a great wine list. I wish though there were more wines by the glass (there were only 2); so if you're driving or not with a few people it's a bit limiting. Anyway, this restaurant has no fried food, so if you wanted a change from the fish & chips, French fries, etc., of a lot of Maine food, it's a very nice option. We had haddock, lobster ravioli, salads and dessert. All were great. Our kids loved the baked rather than fried haddock option.

I'll say a word on service: every single food place we have visited in Maine this month, whether it's a restaurant or ice cream shop is training new staff, and there were lots of help-wanted signs. So, people please take that into account. This is a relatively remote, rural area -- that is why you're here, and that means there aren't tons of people working in summer jobs right at the beginning & end of the season, so give the businesses some love and don't be so harsh on the service reviews.

The night we visited the Brooklin Inn they were training new staff, so it wasn't ideal, but it's wasn't bad either. The reservation thing is interesting; the place was not full, and they seemed to like people to make reservations. But, they seemed to be out of some things (lobster, and then they ran out of haddock). I wonder if that is b/c reservations allow them to order more appropriately? Again, they are serving fresh food, not frozen fried whatever, so I would cut them some slack on this and make a reservation if you can.

Was asked by the owner how the food was. Told him it was satisfactory, as it was. Was told that he has had 44 plus chefs in the decade he has been the owner and that he just cant find anyone to do a quality job. Strange thing to say to a customer.

We aren't satisfied with satisfactory, and are sorry that's all that meal was. Although some of his other meals were quite good. Now, that Chef is gone. We worked too long with him trying for improvement and consistency. We can find Chef's who do a wonderful job over the sixteen years I have been here. I can name six or seven who enjoyed fine success and produced wonderful meals. Our current Chef will be one of the named ones. Try us again to see how we are doing.

We attended a wine tasting dinner. The subject was Bordeaux. We had a lot of choices and most were good to very good. The problem was the food that accompanied the wine. While my dishes were fine but pretty small others had uncooked or burned dishes depending on their luck. The dessert was quite good.

Yes, I will agree with Bob that the tasting menu...there were 5 courses...was a little light.
I wondered if I would get enough to eat, myself, but after the dessert, I felt it was just right. For next month's wine dinner we will have a veg with the meat course and some potatoes somewhere in the meal as well. Thanks for your comments...I thought the wines were all very good. In a past Bordeaux tasting, they all tasted the same...but not on this night.
