WOW! We were pleasantly surprised with Motel East. Being pretty much the only motel in town, $120 for a LARGE 2-queen suite complete with small fridge, microwave and sink we were very happy. The view from the balcony was like a postcard. Ok, the room isn't the Hilton, but I don't stay at the Hilton unless it is a comp room required to stay there for a conference. Room #12 was MUCH better than most "inexpensive" chain motels at a very reasonable price considering the location, view, and lack of competition. Room was clean, bath was large too stocked with the necessary amenities. Being family owned I was not disappointed with the office hours, the hours are clearly posted; the owners deserve a decent life too. I cannot recommend Motel East as well as a visit to Eastport enough, you will fall in love with the escape from the rat race of the city in Eastport during your stay at Motel East. Like others said, 30-second walk to town.

This motel has location, location, location! The rooms are average, but were clean. All of the rooms have an ocean view. We had the end room at the ground level and enjoyed the balcony a great deal, esp. at sunrise and sunset. It's a 30 second walk to the center of town, where you can get fresh bakery goods from Moose island bakery, or a 5 min. walk to the Chowder House, Which all the locals recommend, and so do I !!!! We recommend a whale watch trip on the schooner, Ida C Lore. Overall Eastport is a quiet, quaint little town and so is the Motel East and it fits right in and we will go back!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the left end room at ground level. there is only one balcony devider and neighbor, But all rooms have a great ocean view.

Well, the choices for accommodations in Eastport are quite slim and we read varying accounts about the Motel East on Tripadvisor so we decided to give it a try. We were staying one night only, so how bad could it be?
It started at check-in when we asked about the availability of ice. The only ice machine was in the office which was going to be closed at about 6:30 PM until sometime between 8-9:00 AM. These were regular hours. This presented a small problem but we could get around it. We entered room 12 with some difficulty as the key (real one) didn’t want to work; it needed to be wiggled around each time you entered. The room was one of the largest motel rooms we’ve ever stayed in with it’s own sink, small microwave, and small fridge. It had 2 queen beds; one had a visibly sagging mattress so this became our storage area. The other bed had sheets which seemed clean but were too short to cover yourself and the mattress made noises with every movement no matter how small. The two cushioned chairs had large ugly stains as well as the carpet (many stains). One of the pluses of the Motel East was its location. It was close to the water with a great view of marine traffic. We wanted to sit on the deck off our room but the deadbolt wouldn’t release so we could not access the deck. The screen in the screen door for this deck entrance flapped in the breeze where, I’m guessing, a dog had gone through it ripping it away. The glass in this door (our view of the water) was very dirty.
The bathroom had its own set of problems. The hair dryer didn’t work, a light bulb was out, the mirror appeared to not have been cleaned for quite a while, the toilet handle was plastic and had a big crack in it so you had to be careful how you flushed in order to not break it off. The toilet paper had to have been the least expensive the owner could find. You know the kind; it’s so thin you can almost see though it and it takes a handful to do what you want to do.
My wife and I have stayed in accommodations much older than the East and have been very happy. Because it is an older building doesn’t excuse lack of cleanliness and maintenance issues. Additionally, the wifi signal was poor and this is important because there is no Verizon coverage here.
I would not recommend the East motel to anyone and we will make different plans if we enjoy this area in the future. When asked, a local said to avoid the East but gave us the names of a couple B&B’s.

We were upstairs on the far left which was a great location. And kept us as far as possible from the office...and the smoke. The owners/employees seem to smoke constantly. The rooms are reasonably clean...but everything is old, worn and stained. It is quiet....though we didn't have neighbors. We just interacted once, at check-in, with the owners. They were reasonably nice. Afterwards no-one was ever impolite....but there was a group/family(?) of employees who did stare at us quite a bit (see our profile). But then again, they looked like they had come "into town" for their annual trip to get supplies before heading out to the mountains. We could only laugh about it all.
There are few choices in Eastport. And it is a great place to visit. So for a couple days it served us well.

Room Tip: Balcony on the end away from office.

Stayed here because it was the only place in town we were told. Our friends switched rooms 3 times before they could find a room they would stay in! The carpet in our room was filthy and the beds squeaked, the screen was half off the door. It is real close to town and the view is great
