The Lodge at Moosehead Lake is truly a unique place to get away and enjoy Maine at its best. Dennis and Linda go out of their way to make sure your stay exceeds expectations, from the lodging, gourmet breakfast every morning, to booking any and all activities. We stayed at the Baxter Suite which offers all amenities and a spectacular view of Moosehead Lake.

Room Tip: Their website allows you to view all accommodations and is very accurate.

Phenomenal lodge, great location & views, supported by a "world class" team. The staff also was able (on short notice) to coordinate an exceptional moose safari. Dining experience was outstanding.

Superb website that enables you to select the room/suite of your desires.

We couldn't have been happier with our stay, from the gourmet breakfast, to the designer rooms, to the activities in the great outdoors. Linda and Dennis were so welcoming and helpful and made sure our stay was perfect. We will definitely be back!

We were only able to spend one night at this beautiful lodge, but it was fantastic. We stayed in the Allagash Suite and I would recommend it, a beautiful, spacious room with a great view of Moosehead Lake. Our dinner was delicious, as was the breakfast.

The positives we experienced at the lodge were that our dining experiences were nice for the most part and my wife enjoyed chatting with the chef. Sadly, upon arrival we were told our 6:30 confirmed dinner reservation would not be honored. We were told rather directly "7:30 works for us". Yes, we were taken aback and puzzled at such a response from an inn that advertises as a 5 star diamond lodge (from their web site: Our top rated Maine B&B is a 5 Diamond gem on Moosehead Lake). Had they said "we're sorry for the inconvenience but may we offer you a glass of wine" would have gone a long way towards making us feel welcomed as guests. The lodge seems quite tired and in need of deferred maintenance. Having said that we have found out the lodge has been fort sale the last couple years so that may in part explain things. But our past experiences at 4 and 5 star inns has not been where we paid in excess of $500 average per day and had a tub that had non-functioning jets, observed rotted wood supporting an upper level deck (i.e. potential safety issue), no morning coffee service for early risers. Another reviewer stated that the rooms may be overpriced by $100 to $150 per night --- we would concur on that observation. We were nearing peak foliage season but staffing was not adequate. It was just the husband/wife owners and a cleaning person it seemed. Moosehead Lake region is gorgeous and we will return to the area. But until there are some serious attempts to have the lodge in a condition to warrant the current daily rates we'd look elsewhere. If/when it sells we hope new owners would inject some needed funds into the inn to have it truly warrant a 4 or 5 star rating. We believe AAA should revisit the lodge with perhaps an unannounced visit.

The Lodge at Moosehead Lake is a long time member of Select Registry and proud to have held a 4-Diamond rating from AAA for the last twenty-two years. We (Linda and Dennis) have owned and operated the Lodge for the last ten (10) years. Select Registry has very exhaustive standards enforced by use of a "secret shopper" system. We do not even know the "shopper" is in house until she/he discloses her/his identity after the check-out process is completed. At that point we are given a debriefing which is followed by several pages very detailed observations of how the "shopper" was treated beginning with the phone call to make the reservation all the way through check-out and including observations regarding staffing. Likewise, AAA makes unannounced visits and works off a several page long list of very detailed items up to and including the preferred height and shape of the toilet bowl (we are not kidding).

The Lodge dining room is not a public restaurant. It is a very special amenity reserved for the enjoyment of our lodging guests. We ask each dining guest to make menu selections in advance so that each item can be prepared from scratch the afternoon prior to dinner service. Since we are not staffed as a public restaurant, we schedule very carefully to make sure we can offer each guest a quality experience. Most guests are understanding and very prompt in providing their menu selections. On occasion, it is necessary for the Chef to adjust previously requested seating times to insure smooth service for everyone. We are proud of the fact that breakfast and dinner offerings at the Lodge receive very favorable reviews from the vast majority of our guests.

In truth we have had staffing issues late in the season. We lost our professional Chef to illness when his doctor would not give him clearance to return to the kitchen. His wife had been hired to assist in management of the Lodge. When the Chef was forced to leave, of course, she left as well. This reviewer has jumped to the unwarranted conclusion that understaffing is a chronic problem at the Lodge based on their two (2) stay. They did not provide specifics of how their stay was negatively impacted so we cannot respond further. We are not aware of any complaints during their stay regarding tardy room service or failure to meet other special requests they may have made.

Each guest views the Lodge through a different set of "glasses" and we hope that prospective guests reading this review will withhold judgment until they have experienced the Lodge for themselves.
