My girlfriend and I recently visited Maine to go biking, kayaking (we rented), and to relax at the numerous beaches in the area. During our stay in Maine we spent all four nights at the Kennebunker Cottages and would have gladly extended our stay if we had been able.
We stayed in number 17, a small cottage with a queen bed, a fold down table, a mini-fridge, and an attached bathroom with a stall shower, which was a bit tight for me but not unpleasant. There was no air conditioner in the room but there was a ceiling fan and small wall heater for those cold nights. The cottage was about as big as a medium sized bedroom (I didn't measure but it was about 15-20 ft squared) and the accommodations were simple. The only faults I could find with the cottage were the dead batteries in the remote (not a big deal though as we weren't there to watch TV) and a wobbly lamp that, although it was functional, was badly in need of replacement. It would have been nice if WiFi was more easily accessed but due to the location of the router (which I assume is in the main office) it is apparently easier to access the internet from the enclosed porch of the "kitchen building". The "kitchen building" is a large cottage with a simple but functional kitchen should you choose to prepare a home-cooked meal, a table both on the porch and inside, and a large ice machine which I visited twice a day to refill our cooler (we didn't feel like using our mini-fridge). We had planned to use the kitchen facilities to cook at least one meal during our stay, but there were just too many nice places to eat in the area. We had also planned to grill as we had heard there were grills we could use, which there were, but they were gas grills and we had brought charcoal.
The cottages are about a mile down the road, the the west of the "main drag" and in close vicinity to a number of beaches. We had planned to go "beach hopping" during our stay so we checked out a number of beaches along the coast. However, once we found Footbridge beach in Ogunquit it quickly became our favorite and we went back several times.
The owner of the cottages was extreemly accomodating, providing us with a free parking pass to allow us to park at a few of the local beaches and a cot to allow one of our friends, who happened to be in Maine at the time, to spend one night with us. On our final day he allowed us to leave our car parked in their lot after we had checked out so we could go biking (good/free parking seems...More
