I had the scallops and my husband had the salmon. They were both beautifully presented, very tasty, and perfectly proportioned.

There is limited indoor seating, hoping they will stay open year round!

I visited The Pointe twice in three days and had two very different experiences. The first visit was a Friday night and the restaurant was packed. We reserved a table and were seated promptly. The service was good, the food got excellent reviews from the six people in our party and the sunset was dramatic. Even though the night was blustery and we sat on the deck with plastic sides, the heaters kept us warm and cozy. Our group ordered the seafood saute, clam chowder, steak and potatoes, grilled scallops, mussels and lobster, and duck confit. All were sated and left feeling good.

Contrast that experience with two nights later, a rainy Sunday when the restaurant was sparsely populated. Again we had a reservation and sat outside. Let me begin by saying that, overall, the food on this visit was as good as the last visit. However, nothing else was up to the previously set standard.

The heaters kept us (mostly) toasty as the rain raged outside. The "mostly" is because the one door into the restaurant, very near our table, was broken and did not close properly. No one seemed to know how to fix it so we constantly asked them to close the partially open door to prevent a draft. It definitely set the tone for the evening.

When one member of our foursome asked for a gin and tonic made with a brand-name gin, the server told us they didn't have that brand anymore. Our friend named several other brands that were acceptable to him, none of which, according to the server, the restaurant carried. Finally, we asked the server to check with the bar to see what they DID have. Lo and behold! They had the brand that was originally requested!

Our service went from bad to worse that evening. Two of us shared a dish and asked for an extra plate. The hot dish arrived without the extra plate which took five minutes to appear. We asked for extra spoons and/or forks for a shared (hot) dessert which also took more than 5 minutes to come to the table. Let me emphasize that there were fewer people in the room than at the beginning of the meal. The clincher was the half-glass of wine I ordered to go with my main course. The wine arrived as I was finishing the dish.

There is much to recommend The Pointe including the food itself and the view. This is why I gave the restaurant a 3 rating. Unless The Pointe can improve their service, Until then, the restaurant will continue to frustrate and disappoint clients.

Great place on a summer evening but take a pullover as it can get chilly. Great food and service. Fantastic views across to Portsmouth.

We had a fabulous meal with wonderful scenery and ambience. It was a perfect evening. We had a table on the dock in perfect weather.Alex the host was as he said "made for the service industry" Our waitress did her best. That was the high.
Now, the low. We ordered our meal at 6;30 and received it at 8:30. We had a first round of drinks which were tardy and we begged for a second round which our waitress made herself. Several tables left without dinner. As we decided to leave or dinners arrived.
We adjusted. We should have been comped at that point. We have major reservations about going back but dinner was great.Location unique. You choose.

We've been to The Pointe twice. Have not been served one dish that wasn't (1) perfectly prepared; (2) totally delicious, and (3) made with the freshest and highest-quality ingredients. The plates are intended for sharing, so plan on ordering a couple of different things and having everybody try them. Usually 4 of us go together and sample everything. And don't skip dessert, by all means! For anyone who complains about the prices - this is not a fried clam stand. Outstanding food is not cheap. With that said, we didn't think the prices were in the stratosphere. The location is off the beaten path, with a breathtaking view. You owe it to yourself to visit The Pointe, at least for a special occasion. Kudos to Chef Kevin and all of the staff!
