After spending a night at a campground on Bar Harbor where it was a bit crowded, we were so refreshed to find this quiet, woodsy campground with gorgeous views and nice private sites. As a few other reviewers mentioned, I hate to even write a review because it is such a great little gem. Our family spent time kayaking and taking some nice nature path walks. Well worth the trip. Beautiful harbor sunset too! We couldn't get a site on the water because of a last minute reservation, but I highly recommend those sites.

We stay here every summer for at least a few nights. I disagree with another reviewer regarding distance to Acadia. We regularly do day trips to Acadia from Lamoine. It's maybe 20 minutes away and that's pretty darn close!! If you want to book an oceanfront site on a weekend or holiday, you better be ready to book the very second reservations are available (the website will tell you when that is, generally early February). I'm not exaggerating. Reservations became available at 9am February 8th (today) and all oceanfront sites were booked by 9:02 am for 4th of July weekend.

This place is quiet with large sites and a nice playground. The beach at the park is not for swimming, but it is very nice for walking. The beach right down the street is great for wading and digging for clams and even swimming.

We booked here last minute, about 2 days before our trip to Maine. The campground was very laid back, and stress free.

The staff:
The staff were great! Laid back, yet helpful, and attentive.

The location:
Probably one of the nicest locations we have camped at. It is in a grove of trees right up next to the waters edge. There is a boat launch, and beach you can walk when the tide is out, right in front of the campground. Not a sandy beach, but a rocky one, were people dig for clams and such. You can smell the cool salty air lofting through the camp at night. Very nice!

It is about 15 minutes from Ellsworth proper, and about 35 minutes from Acadia National park. At the time, we were going to Bar Harbor to eat, so that was disappointing until we went into Ellsworth, and found a small Oasis of business. I would definitely do some visiting in Ellsworth proper while you are staying here.

They have a large shack of firewood in a central location. If you want some, you just go there and pick up what you need, and it is on the honor system, so you just put 5 dollars in the money slot. They also have a wagon you can use to haul it back to your camping slot.

This was a very peaceful stay. I am really glad I found this place, and would go here again in a heartbeat!

Like reviewers of Lamoine State Park have mentioned, I'm almost hesitant to write this review because this campground is such a hidden gem. Camp here!

It's a little off the beaten path, but was exactly what we needed after a long drive up from the White Mountains in NH on our way to Acadia.

What's so amazing: some campsites are 50 feet off the water! We were in spot 58 and had a completely unblocked view of the water and Mount Desert Island, as well as all of the sailboats moored off the shore. We were in our small tent, and all night long the only sound we heard was the dinging of ropes against the masts of the boats. Perfectly Maine.

The campground was quiet and dark, we could barely tell anyone else was around us. The showers are really great (and included in reservation fees, which we hadn't realized).

The couple staying next to us in their small trailer was there for 2 weeks, and then moving a few spots down to stay another 2 weeks. I can see why! I hope we have a chance to go back soon.

Good to know: I think it's too far to stay here and make day trips into Acadia. We liked the campground so much that we wondered if we should have just stayed there instead of going in to Blackwoods, but we would have faced at least a 1 hour drive each way every day.
