Gorgeous view of the lake from Route 17. And a crossing of the Appalachian Trail. Saw some hikers! Before you head up 17 visit the very clean restrooms near the park and across from the General Store.

Stopped by this overlook and it is another great view of the area. They seem to be trying to make it a nice attraction in the area, only if people that visit would stop writing their names all over everything in paint. Again beautiful view and worth the stop.

beautiful scenery as we stopped for a break to stretch our legs & read up on history of the area. We looked around & snapped pics in more like a video.

Having visited many of Maine's largest lakes, I have always enjoyed the views on Mooselook the most. Because the lake is large, the spectacular scenery reminds me of being on the ocean but being surrounded by mountains that are just far enough in the distance creates beautiful sunrises and sunsets that I have cherished for years now. The sandy beaches, steep rocky cliffs and cool clear water all add to this lakes reputation. Because it is not easy to get to, boat traffic is light even on a weekend and since PWC's are banned, the lake is quiet. Although there are small built up sections lined up with camps, there are also the Maine Public Reserve Land sections that are heavily forested and pristine. It is the pine covered shores, uninhabited hidden coves and small islands in these land preserve areas that help make Mooselookmeguntic more peaceful than its neighbor Rangeley. Hopefully, this lake will continue to be respected as it is and not be overdeveloped so that it remains a reflection of an uncommon and unique wilderness for all to enjoy-not just those with a million dollars!
