The Moorings Inn Waterfront
Reviewed 3 September 2014

We stayed here after a day at Acadia National Park. We arrived at night and left the next morning, which we really regretted, because the most amazing thing about this inn is its amazing ocean view. We booked two rooms: my husband and I had the Theoline room, and my in-laws were upstairs in the Silver Spray suite. Even though our room downstairs was smaller, we had the most stunning picture window to make up for it. The moment you open your eyes in the morning, you are greeted by a brilliant expanse of blue ocean. This place oozed character, and we loved it! Normally, I'm not into flowery wall paper or creaky floorboards, but in this case, it's part of the experience. It's a throwback to the days of quiet, family owned sea-side joints. In the evenings, it's pitch black and very peaceful. You can hear the ocean and look at the stars. There are plenty of beautiful and curious little antiques in the public spaces to engross a traveler for hours, such as the telescope, the china collection, and the old books. My in-laws were a little creeped out by the mannequins in the sitting room of the Silver Spray suite... but they got used to it :) The breakfast in the morning was great--we took ours and had it outside, next to the ocean. My only complaint was the water pressure in our bathroom; it was a little on the light side. Overall, one of the most unique places I've ever stayed in. Definitely would recommend!

Thank you for relaxing into the magic of the Moorings. A generationally local family owned seaside inn we most certainly are. I have made a note about the water pressure for the plumbers. If we can enhance the pressure we will. Stargazing at night is a favorite evening activity here. Best to you and your family.

We stayed for two nights in the dauntless suite. Beside it needs a bit of renovation (wallpaper falls down from the wall) it was not as clean as it could have been. The housekeeping left the unclean dishes in the room and as we moved in there was stuff from other guests still in the fridge when we arrived.
The charming old house and these rooms are a nice "feature" but there was a smell in the room that could have been eliminated with a bit of fresh air upfront.

Let's talk about the staff: The arrival with Melanie was great - the service in the morning (for breakfast) was just bad! We looked for knifes - the person taking care of breakfast just told us: "there should be knifes at the buffet". As we didn't find anything she went thru a backdoor and refilled the knifes and didn't even talked to us about it. That was rude!

All on all it was an ok stay in a room with a great view, but with plenty of things that could've been done just way better - even considering the price.

Thank you for coming to stay and enjoying the ocean view suite. The owner has seen this review as well. We continuously do renovations to preserve this historical property. Our apologies for the inconveniences you experienced. I have talked to housekeeping to make sure that nothing is being overlooked and to provide a more consistent pleasant customer service. Please know we work hard to meet the needs of our guests, and want everyone to truly enjoy and embrace their time here.

We enjoyed our stay, got great restaurant advice (Thurston's Lobster rolls are amazing), and watched the sunrise and sunset from our balcony. Breakfast was fresh and fine. Between a B&B and Inn...privacy and helpful staff, but larger.

The area for being quaint has a variety of eateries. Being on the quietside there are some beautiful on the water dining locations. As the inn does not have a communal dining room we do not do the B&B breakfast. However, we put out a generous continental breakfast to keep our guests happy, and provide the space for dreaming up the days adventures.

Amazing location, water views! The rooms are just okay...We stayed in the Monarch, where there was a bed, chair, closet and a bathroom. The bathroom is tiny, but for a night or two will be okay. The breakfast consisted of a very decent coffee, muffins, cheese, salami, mini bagels and watermelon. It held us over until lunchtime, where we stuffed our face with lobster. The lobby has a ton of brochures of the maps and things to do. Would stay again! (Traveled as a couple, stayed two nights in August 2014).

Yes, we have a variety of accommodations. Monarch is a favorite, but is one of our more practical options. One that I find to give you peace and quite at a great price, while still having the big ocean view just a door away. We are very pleased you also enjoyed the breakfast. Thank you for coming to stay. We hope you do return.

We happened upon this wonderful B&B by accident while driving through Arcadia National Park. We got the last available room and it was magnificent! A picture window with the harbor was the view from our comfortable king-sized bed. We also had a sitting room/dressingroom and bath and our own private balcony with Victorian table and chairs. There is a great Mediterranean restaurant just down the road - Walker's. Exellent food and drink. Our room was "dedicated" to Queen Victoria and the whole house has to be seen. I could not believe the beautiful antiques in every room! The staff was most accomodating and we had a lovely continental breakfast before (reluctantly) departing the next morning. We hope to return soon.

Room Tip: I'm not sure if all rooms have a private bath - so I would ask!

It is our pleasure that you had such a wonderful stay. And, yes all accommodations have their own private full bath. We hope your travels bring you back this way too.
