If you want to feel a peaceful state of mind in a setting right out of Hollywood, then The Moorings in Southwest Harbor is IT! They call it the quiet side of Mt.Desert Island, and it is. Peaceful, serene, slower paced. At chance to truly relax from the worries of life. This quaint Inn is everything to enjoy. Beautiful harbor views, truly nice people, and out of the way of noise and clutter. If you are looking for state of the art amenities, and waited on hand and foot, stick to Bar Harbor. If you want a homey feeling and good conversation, this is it. If I am so lucky to return, here is where I will call home during my stay. Say hello to Lee for me. And when she repeats Bah Hahbah, you know you are in Maine. Oh, yeah, Enjoy the sunrise!

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets , sparkling water, cool ocean breezes, and dancing boats all within a stones throw- this is what we have . Every accommodation but 2 have an ocean view. Relaxing rooms, suites, and cottage are all here for the taking. No two accommodations are the same . We have something for everybody and the staff strives to compliment our guests experiences. If there is a need the staff does their best to accommodate it. Lee will appreciate your good will! Hoping you return next season.

Woke to lobster boats heading out of harbor to witness a magical sunrise - yes, the rooms are that close to the water. Comfy inn on the water with ample adirondack chairs to see the sunset reflecting on Cadillac Mountain and MDI. Nice quiet side alternative to the Bar Harbor. Second floor rooms are up steep stairs so that's the only caveat. Management aims to please. Dog friendly to boot.

This place is a dump. The photos of the rooms were either not the same place or changed in some way. Our room is an addition, converted from a mobile home
The bathroom is small, unfinished and does not even afford privacy from the outside. The furniture is old, mismatched and cheap. The setting is quiet and pretty.

Unfortunately we could not satisfy your concerns while you were here. We did offer to give you a credit but we did not have another accommodation that you could stay in for your entire trip without moving.

This room was booked online and the photos do depict what it actually looks like. This "light house wing" was not converted from a mobile home or any prefabrication. It was built in the late 1960"s when travelers preferred a "motel" type of accommodation- which means one floor, ground level , and a parking area close by. It is easy to get confused with the number of different room types we offer and no two are the same.

I apologize if it didn't meet your expectations, we try to satisfy our customers needs and usually can. We pride ourselves on being unique and offering an experience that is relaxing, peaceful, and stress free. We appreciate your feedback and will take your comments into consideration. Hope this response clarifies some inaccurate in formation.

The Moorings Inn is lovely, and a great point from which to enjoy Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. The Inn is located in a quiet neighborhood, overlooking the harbor. Our room, Theoline, was one of the smaller rooms on the first floor, perfect for our needs. The huge picture window overlooked the harbor and provided a wonderful breeze off the water. Behind the inn there is a rocky beach and a dock. Also plenty of chairs and small tables to sit and enjoy watching the harbor activity. Breakfast was your standard continental fare, yet with plenty of choices to keep everyone happy. The staff at the inn were friendly and accommodating, even calling us to let us know our room was ready earlier than we expected - a nice touch. Most importantly, the Inn is reasonably priced for what you get. We liked staying on "the quiet side" of MDI, away from the crowds in Bar Harbor. We ate at a few restaurants in Soutwest Harbor and all were excellent. I would definitely stay at The Moorings Inn again, and highly recommend it to others.

We stayed in their third story suite. The view from there of Southwest Harbor, Somes Sound and Acadia National Park was breathtaking. The suite was comfortable with two bedrooms, a bath, and a kitchen-living room-dining room, and a large front deck overlooking the view. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well-supplied with utensils, dishes, and pots and pans. We didn't eat out every meal and enjoyed sunsets from the dining room table.

There is a rocky beach on the property from which we could launch our kayaks at any tide. Paddling at different times around the harbor, to Somes Sound, and past Greening Island to Northeast Harbor was a pleasure for the three of us who like to paddle. The property is also close to the quiet side of Acadia National Park where we went for hikes, and my daughter and son-in-law could go for long runs.

Restaurants in Sountwest Harbor are close and good. Southwest Harbor and Manset are a fine alternative to the much busier Bar Harbor side of Mount Desert Island.
