Out the French doors of our room, you could watch the sun rise and watch boats traveling out to sea. From the other side, you could see sunset and watch the harbor activity. The grounds are lovely and peaceful, and you could make a fire or barbecue or just bring in takeout as others did. We brought our breakfasts to sit outdoors by our room. We launched our canoe from the property, but next time we'd take it to the nearby public launch, which is a little easier.

Room Tip: Not exactly a beach: all rocks. But definitely ocean on 2 sides.

Hello, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us! It is very convenient that we are so close to the water and if you are staying for awhile its nice to leave your kayaks or canoes by the water and go in whenever you would like. But yes for putting it on and off your vehicle the town dock is much easier and luckily very close to us! We hope that you will come back and stay with us again!

Thank you

I can't imagine a more serene and comfortable setting. The inn is beautifully decorated with antiques and nautical artifacts and the rooms are spacious and equipped with a small fridge, dishes, a microwave and coffee pot. We enjoyed our stay immensely and wish we could have stayed longer.

The Moorings Inn is a great place to stay and an amazing location. The hospitality of all the staff is excellent. Everyone makes you feel very welcome. The rooms are clean and very nicely furnished. The location is ideal with views up Somes Sound and into Southwest Harbor. We will go there again and again!!!

We enjoyed our stay here. The view was absolutely beautiful, with a large, grassy lawn and chairs overlooking water, boats and islands.

The house would be more charming with some work. Our door to the outside area did not actually have a functional lock and the bathroom door had to be forced to close. The bathroom itself was barely large enough to turn around in and would be more functional with a minor upgrade.

Not big into television on vacation, but the one in our room had mostly snowy channels. One of two easily accessible outlets in the room has a broken off plug in it.

There is a small continental breakfast every morning with cereal and a few other items.

Housekeeping was friendly & cleaned the room/bathroom each day.

Liked being in Southwest Harbor vs. Bar Harbor.

Hello, I am glad you enjoyed your stay and I am truly sorry for any inconveniences in the room. Anytime there is a problem and our staff is notified we are most generally able to fix it or depending on the schedule upgrade you to an accommodation more fitting for your needs. We make updates here every year, but try to maintain some of the historical importance of the house. It is one of the oldest buildings here on MDI and that is something we and the community value. Again I am glad you were able to come and enjoy the beauty of the island and the park and hope you will be back again. We like to hear positive feed back about things we can add to our improvement list! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Moorings Inn is old. The floors creak, the stairs are narrow, the windows are single pane, but that's part of the charm of the place.

The complimentary breakfast was complete with a number of nice baked goodies. The coffee was good- you'll find the water for the coffee out on the porch. I would recommend getting to the breakfast early as it can get picked over if you're a late riser.

My room had old, sometimes antique, furniture. I found myself wishing that I had a glass of wine that I could sip whilst lounging on the vintage settee in my own parlor. Yes, my room had a parlor with a writing desk and big comfy chair as well as the settee.

It's not a dump, just not flashy and new. It is simple and Old World/European.

Room Tip: My room was over the entry door and noisy when people went in and out. It's amazing how noisy people are when they enter a foyer.

We are pleased that you and your family enjoyed your visit with us. Serenity by the sea , in a warm inviting atmosphere is the way we have been for 5 generations! The owner tries to preserve the past with subtle modern conveniences such as wifi and cable TV. Being one of the oldest buildings on Mt. Desert Island is something we take pride in . Our history can be explored fully on our web site. The lite breakfast is just enough to get the weary traveler up and running with plenty of coffee, juice, fresh fruit, sweet bread of the day ,and in season a meat and cheese platter . Local restaurants are nearby and make "cook to order " breakfasts if a more hardy meal is needed. We hope you will be joining as one of our many returning guests ... and don't forget to listen to the Somes Sound!
