Although the Captain Penniman house was not open to the public on the day we visited, it was still very interesting to walk around the outside of this beautiful, old building. The attention to detail in its construction is amazing. Walk down the hill to see the whalebone entrance while you're there, too.

Heading to the Fort Hill walking trails for the first time, one comes first to this amazing house with the crossed whalebones entryway. What beautiful architecture! Only wish we'd been there when it was open - so next time. It sits on a hill with a stunning view towards the ocean.

We spend a month every year in this area and often take Ranger guided walks both in historic properties and at local beaches and other natural areas. The National Seashore is a real treasure to explore and enjoy.

Amazing historic home, only wish we had visited on a day when the home was open to the public. While visiting in the off season has it's perks, it can make getting to attractions when they are open challenging. We walked around the house and on the surrounding trails. I would definitely recommend visiting when it's open!

Walked through open house after hiking fort hill trails. Worth the wait for open house! Restoration has gone well! Rangers are super nice and able t answer questions. Truly spectacular architecture. So glad we got in!
