A friend and I stopped by for lunch today. It wasn't crowed and we seated right away. The menu is extensive and very inspired. I ordered the chicken katsu and found it delicious. It was light and crispy and very flavorful. Our Russian waiter was a surprise and delightful. The portions were ample and the preparation and presentations were thoughtful. I will go back again and again.

We took a sixteen hour bus ride from the Chicago to participate in a hockey tournament held at different prep schools in MA, NY and CT. After a long ride, countless hours in cold rinks, a good meal was greatly needed and anticipated.
The atmosphere is nice but nothing spectacular. But the owner, whose name we forgot to get, spent a great deal of time explaining the different offerings on a very diverse menu. He was patient, funny, friendly and very informative. We felt like we got a wonderful gastro-education in addition to a great meal.
The quality and freshness of the food was fantastic. We ordered several different dishes and we all sampled from each other's plates. Everything he recommended was fantastic. There were six very different tastes and our ages ranged from 14 to 55 but everyone loved their meal. And our waitress was friendly and professional.
It was a little pricey but the food and experience were well worth it. I'm not sure if or when we will ever be back in the area but I can't recommend the food enough to anyone in or near Great Barrington!

Bizen has some of the best flavors offered for cuisine in the Berkshires. Follow these guidelines for a delicious meal...Their ume scallion salad dressing should not be missed. The rolls are also tasty. I am not a fan of the oysters. I am a fan of the hijiki, agé tofu, any grilled items and lunch specials. Any maki roll whether simple such as the shiitake vegetarian maki or complex like the yo-yo mama or Buddha roll will make your taste buds happy. It is not a chain restaurant so things like shumai and spring rolls will not taste like chain food. There are organic and macro options. It's very natural. The salmon sushi/sashimi is like butter! I hope this helps you decide what to order!

First off, our server was awesome! She took plenty of time to help show us the various menus and find just the right sake. Have to give kudos to the host as well who found us a good table and made sure we were comfortable. But the food was somewhat of a letdown. We opted for some appetizers and sushi and can't say that anything was anything but less than average. Thankfully the prices for sushi we're not exorbitant. But again, we won't be going back anytime soon.

We opted to sit at low tables, where you take off your shoes.
The food is always fresh, and delicious. The plates are easily shared, and you always end up ordering too much.
The restaurant is busy and noisy, but they have many different seating areas.
they offer a full bar, and plum wines and sake. For some reason the plum wine is never cold enough.
Take your time and read the whole menu so you don't miss anything..
