Description: The name "Colombo" is the Italian form of "Colomba" the latin word for "dove", which is the "Bird of Peace". It is in the spirit of peace that friends and family gather to celebrate the everyday occurrences that touch our lives. Great food, drink and conversations are the cornerstones for the sharing of these convivial, day-to-day passions. Colombo's Cafe & Pastries stands for the beloved concept born in Italy of the "gathering place"... Truly a place that "welcomes everyone, everyday... At any time" translating as "Benvenuti a tutti" in Italian, whereby the tried and true, centuries-old tradition of "all are welcome" prevails.Open seven days a week, year round, from 11:30am for lunch and dinner.

We've eaten at Colombo's several times and the experience has always been enjoyable. This evening we had Sole Piccata and Veal Saltimbocca. Both dishes were outstanding, except the risotto served as a side to both plates was overcooked. We were thinking of having a dessert but the gelato had already been put away or had run out.

My husband and another couple had Valentine's Day dinner. I had clam chowder with no discernible clams and calamari marinara that tasted dull and heavy. No bright seafood taste! The other three loved their choices, licked their plates clean. Maybe I made bad choices. Our waitress was friendly, attentive. The place was alive with happy smiling people. We will give it another try.

I went for a casual lunch with friends and walked out very impressed! I tried the Sole Piccata served with risotto and asparagus. Very very delicious!

We stumbled into Colombo's after striking out at our first three choices - what a great discovery! It's a big place, and a popular watering hole, but the food is excellent, for a fair price. We've driven down to Hyannis from Plymouth twice more because the food is so good, and we'll be back.
The fish is always fresh and well-prepared. Every other dish was excellent as well. The bar is pretty good (not great) but the bartender is flexible and smart. The drinks are big, and cost proportionally, but you get what you pay for - basically two drinks for the price of two drinks.
They have a variety of fresh pastries, too. The ricotta pie is excellent. I don't know if they are made in-house - on the drive home we passed a van from Boston's celebrated Modern Pastry...

They have the awful green neon light over the flourescent lighted pastry case. Makes their dinner food look like dog food. Green does not shine well on a red sauce, folks. And it is in the eyeline of most tables in the place so good luck getting away from it. Not a good date spot for this reason. Spot is not located in the North End, so don't pretend!
