“Lovely gite in a lovely part of France”
Reviewed 23 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

The gite is well equipped and located in a private section of the owners lovely garden.
Jane had left bread, butter, jam, cheese and even a lovely bottle of wine.

Merv and Jane were wonderful hosts. Merv even brought us some tomatoes from the garden.

The boys loved the pool and the week's stay in the village.
Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts who advised of local places to visit and local restaurants.

The region is a wonderful part of France with endless vines growing. We visited many stunning villages around causses et veyran. We wouldn't hesitate to return and would certainly recommend the area and this little gem of a gite.

“Lovely relaxing break”

We have just returned from a lovely break in the south of France staying at gite Magnolia. Our experiences echo the previous reviews and we found the gite comfortable, clean, well equipped and finished to a high standard. The pool was excellent and the garden offering sun and shade throughout the day.

Mervin and Jane were welcoming hosts and helpful with good tips and advice. Like other travelers we enjoyed similar things, such as;

Local village; depot the pain was nice with good quality bread and the the local cafe La Nuna was excellent with decent food and local wines.

Markets: We visited st Chinian which was fabulous and also the food and flower Markets in Beziers which were enjoyable but St Chinian was our preferred option.

Beaches:We visited Valras Plage which was great and found a reasonable quiet spot slightly away from the center and close to a beach restaurant called the L'oasis plage which was great. The swimming was safe and the groynes provided good shelter.

Cycling; I enjoyed the hire of a mountain bike and used the local routes as suggested by Mervin, with a great cycle through the vineyards to Cessenon sur Orb and enjoyed coffee and a croissant at Le Helder taking in the atmosphere and coming and goings of the locals. The Church is also worth a visit.

Kayaking; We enjoyed the 10 Km route but on our day they opened the local dam increasing the water level by 40 cm and this had a spectacular effect on the rapids, which became very rapid and changed the speed of the water and depth of the rapids, which was exciting but not really suitable for beginners. In some places the conditions would be categorized as grade 3 water in the UK.

River swimming: we enjoyed the river at Reals with plenty of small dipping pools away from the swift moving water. Make sure you have some water shoes as they are essential. Super U sold jelly shoes and the village shop in Cessenon water shoes at a reasonable rate.

Beziers; we enjoyed a morning in Beziers and it is a lovely city with spectacular views from the Cathedral the stairs on the way down were a killer!. There were lots of things to do and see and we enjoyed the key sites.

All the local villages offer something and we enjoyed them all but Roquebrun and Cessenon in particular. The cafe and restaurants were nice and we visited the Mediterranean Gardens and Roquebrun Cave (Free tour and wine tasting on a Wednesday evening), which we would highly recommend.

We drove down with a half way stop each way which was manageable but in essence added 4 days on to our holiday which will be something to consider should we do it again. The trade off though was the ability to take things back with us which was a real bonus.

All in all an enjoyable break in a lovely area of France at a great location with great weather and wall to wall sunshine whilst being an enjoyable heat.

“Wonderful holiday again”
Reviewed 25 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

This was our second holiday at Gite Magnolia and we enjoyed it even more than the first time - I suppose because we knew what to expect.
Unfortunately Merv was away working but Jane and her mum, who was visiting from New Zealand, greeted us like old friends and once again we were made very welcome.
We spent lots of time just relaxing by the pool this time but my other half took advantage of the mountain bike hire and had some fantastic off road cycling through the tracks in the nearby vineyards. What we really enjoyed was the fact that it was the middle of the grape harvest, and the whole of the area was inundated with tractors towing little trailers full of grapes. Everywhere you went, you could smell the grape must - would definitely visit at this time of year again as it added to the ambience of the area.
We had a fantastic day kayaking down the Orb and can highly recommend this, but you need to take some old trainers or the like as they don't allow sandals.
I can also highly recommend the market at Valras Plage on a Saturday morning - it's huge and you can pick up some real bargains, so leave lots of room in your case. They have fantastic fresh products - all kinds of olives, sausage, cheese, melons etc as well as locally produced wine.
We had another fabulous meal cooked by Jane in her new kitchen - delicious pork that just melted in the mouth. We also used the BBQ one night which made a nice change from eating out.
The gite has a cool box and ice blocks which we took full advantage of, taking picnics out several days.
We will definitely be back again and I can see this being a yearly pilgrimage as we have fallen in love with the area.

“Perfect! Home from home but with great weather”
Reviewed 2 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We have just returned from 8 days at Gites Magnolia with a stop at Orleans en route. Our sat nav lead us through lots of tiny villages with no sign of life and we were all getting very concerned at what we would find on our arrival. After knocking at a run down house with no answer we realised we were in the wrong road. We drove back down the hill and found our delightful oasis. A word of advice don't turn off the motorway until at Beziers. Gites magnolia is a very homely, well equipped holiday home with a lovely garden and pool. Plenty of shade under the fabulous magnolia tree and umbrellas and plenty of sun beds and chairs for basking in the sun. Jane and Merv were extremely friendly and helpful yet allowed us to have our own privacy at all times. We went to beaches first full day but were disappointed with lack of basic facilities ie wash your hands after toilets We got back to our little oasis and stayed there for the rest of the holiday enjoying the pool and all the comfort. We brought our own barbecue and had few nights of healthy eating and drinking. Our teenage girls loved being there as they had internet and could keep in contact with friends as well as full comfort of home and beautiful weather We did this type of holiday first time ( always hotels before or mobile homes in France) and it's definitely the best way to be in south of France If you want to be in the crowd it's half hour drive or have your own space. Local people were very friendly so overall experience was fabulous. Highly recommended for families or couples
