Review of Northshore Kayak

These folks at NorthShore Kayak are great! Friendly - good equipment - know their way around. If you are interested in renting kayaks and paddling around Rockport - this is the place to go. They have SUPs now too so we are thinking about trying that next time.

Took the 2 HR guide tour and it was great, the weather was perfect and the team was very nice, the equipment is up dated, they have single or double kayaks.
Great fun day.

Make reservations and then take a sea kayak trip with a guide through the harbor in the fun little city of Rockport to one of several destinations. North Shore Kayak has both single and tandem kayaks, and seems to have an adequate supply of cute young men to lead the tours efficiently and with the ease of familiarity with the tides and the best routes.

We were a group of 4, took 2 singles and 1 tandem kayak. A little prior experience but not much. Before we launched, we were given a short lesson in paddling, maneuvering the kayaks and positioning ourselves with relation to the guide, armed with lifejackets and paddles, provided with the kayaks, and - off we went! Total of 14 people on the tour.

It was really wonderful. The sun is brutal, so sunscreen, hats with straps and sunglasses are essential. Dress suggestions are covered in detail on their website. Strenuous exercise if you don't share it in a tandem.

But the route - and we took the shortest one possible, about 2 hours - allowed us a view of the harbor and harbor entrance as well as an island just outside, which we circumnavigated (putting us directly into ocean waves) with a lighthouse and myriad sea birds. The coastline is rocky, with cliffs overlooking the ocean most of the way.

The guides (we had 2 for our group) were attentive, had us feeling protected the entire trip.

Their location is also a shop, with a wide assortment of clothing, shoes and accessories suitable for your trip. The selection is broad and interesting.

We all loved it!

Visited Rockport recently and we took one of North Shore's guided 2 hour trips out of the harbor, around Thatcher Island and back.

We could make reservations for the trip, which was great. Staff was helpful in getting us equipped and on the way. We went with about 25 other guests on a busy day, but the staff still handled the trip well. The course itself was a lot of fun. The staff provided good advice to prepare well for clothing, etc., and good instruction for first-time kayakers. The 2 hour tour was a good way to experience the Rockport area, and I'd definitely return to take the seal trip or other options offered.

Worth a note to watch the wind a bit. We did not have a problem rowing back to the starting point, but a number of guests on the trip did have some difficulty returning when faced with rowing into the wind. The staff took wonderful care in assisting those guests.

Plan ahead, no restrooms at the store.

The staff was a lot of fun on the trip and was great to work with. Good stuff.
