The food comes in large portions and is tasty. We had the mussels and fish and chips. The fish was thick and tasty with a flacky batter and chips wrre great. The mussels were very tasty. We also had the home made blueberry crumble, which wss excellent. Best I have had in a long while. The decor is cool in rustic nautical and there was a firplace with a fire going. It was very busy and we had to wait for 45mins to get a table. Best to go early or late for lunch, after the crowds leave Would revisit.

Our table by the window was hardly large enough for our cod and chips and baked lobster, bread board and wine of course. Warning - do not go mad with the wonderful bread or you will not be able to finish the main meal. great service and ambiance.

Apparently this 'Black Dog' was meant to be fabulous! It was recommended to us by a local and a tour guide. This place had all the makings of a great location, only about 10 feet from the sea and a lovely maritime interior based on maritime traditions.

We were brought to our table in a very rushed manner by a young waitress and handed our menus as she marched off without even talking to us.

We were looking looking forward to some great food. I love fish so I ordered the fishcakes from the menu which said they had ingredients of 'blended spices' which sounded wonderful! Unfortunately this was untrue. When my fishcake arrived it was a cold, scattered, tasteless mess!! I couldn't actually eat it! There were no spices of any kind to be tasted.

The fries I ordered were also cold. My husband ordered a burger and fries and his was cold. The waitress never came back to us to ask if our meal was ok, or to see if we needed anything else, but instead promptly introduced herself to the table beside and made it her business to make sure everything was ok with them.

We left disappointed and hungry!!!!

Just off the ferry and too early to check in, were in search of a quick bite and a beer. Note, the beer in Vineyard Haven must come with food, not a bar in town. Great beer selection and ordered a BLT (looking for a small lunch, ha!) Sandwich was generously sized on fresh sourdough bread and the accompanying fries were a cross between steak fries and potato skins and delicious. All in all, delicious and our seat in the corner in the beachfront porch was perfect.

We were a large group of friends who had come to Martha's Vineyard for a wedding. Many had come across the country from California and others from New York City. The Black Dog Tavern was a must on our list of restaurants to visit. When we arrived, the waitress very gruffly gave us our menus and took our drink orders. She acted as if she was really doing us a favor by answering a legit question about the Bloody Marys, which are served NOT with vodka, but with sake! We inquired as to whether we could have one made with vodka, and her answer was just NO! Most of our group of 16 were honestly afraid to ask her anything because of her attitude. While the food was pretty good, and the atmosphere met its expectations - we won't be back next year. We will probably be better served (pun intended) staying in Edgartown and having lunch at The Wharf.
