We left our stay at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center not sure of what to think. Let's start with the good. The location is great if you are attending a concert or sporting event downtown. Everything is within walking distance. There was a parking garage right next to the hotel where we paid $15 for overnight parking.
The hotel itself is within the Renaissance Center, which to me is a confusing complex of towers. It is sometimes challenging to figure out what is where with different sets of elevators and is difficult to see where things are because of the massive cement pillars in the building. We arrived around 3pm to check in. The check in line was probably 50 people deep, but we jumped right in to the elite line and were next at the counter. We forgot our cell phone charger and asked if they had an extra one like many hotels have and we were literally laughed at and told "housekeeping might have some, but they don't bring them to the front desk." We found our way to our room which was nice and overlooked downtown toward Ford Field and Tiger Stadium.
We then tried to get to the concierge lounge, which the front desk had told us was open, even though we questioned it being open because it was a Saturday, but we were assured it was open. It was just two flights away, so we took the stairs...which were disgusting from leaking pipes, dirty floors and a left over cookie in the stairwell. We got to the lounge and couldn't get in. We used the hotel hallway phone to call to ask and were told it wasn't open. We go back to our room, call the front desk, but are told this time that it will be open later tonight. Later in the evening, it still wasn't open. We just wanted to stop in and grab a couple bottles of water, but no. The next morning the lounge was open for breakfast, but that didn't match up with the hours listed on the sign outside of the lounge. Enough about the lounge and back to room.
There wasn't a vent fan in the bathroom, so the entire room got steamy while taking showers...is that even legal to have a bathroom without a vent fan? We also noticed that above our window there was plastic and a lot of tape as if they had fixed something, but hadn't taken down all of the materials. Bottom line, would I stay here again, I guess I would if I were attending an event in downtown Detroit that required an overnight stay, but would I purposefully seek out this hotel, not a chance.

Nice view rooms are really small for the price , other than that a lot to do around the area and always stuff going on in the building. Hotel staff was pretty friendly. Took the shuttle from the to the Joe

Larvene and Ava showed me how Marriott should never be represented. These are very disrespectful and rude toward me.I would love a manager or someone from corps to give me or call.

this Matter is very important.
Thanks Reuben

I stayed here on a business trip - arrived late and when my team and I checked in, they told me they did not have our company's card. I proceeded to show them the reservation confirmations on my phone with the last 4 digits of our travel agent's card - and they said they would need another authorization. The woman who checked us in was at least nice and cordial - the same can't be said for her colleague the following day. He refused to look for the authorization form our travel agent had sent in - again - and could not have been less helpful or friendly. Aside from that, the room was ok thought I'm also surprised that a Marriott hotel would't have water bottles in the room, even for purchase.

Great location 12 minute walk to Ford Field or Comerica Park. Even shorter walk to Greektown and Casino. Check in was a breeze and friendly service. Clean room, nothing fancy but great floor to ceiling windows. Very lively bar that was open late each night. Ren Center can be tricky to navigate but food court during the week is a nice touch. Lots of good restaurants at REN Center. Call ahead for Valet because it can take 15 min. Elevators were not an issue even with the size of hotel.
