It's not the ocean but hey that just means no saltwater. Had a great time playing at the beach with the family it was 9 dollars to get a day pass onto the state park but I feel it was well worth it.

Its beautiful Lake Michigan beach may not be quite as glorious as some further north, where the dunes are more spectacular, but this state park campground has one huge advantage going for it: its family-friendly alcohol-free policy. Five years ago, this was the first Michigan state park I ever camped at, and I had no idea just how atypical my wonderful experience here would turn out to be. Only after I'd camped in parks where the alcohol flowed freely did I realize that public drunkenness, loud-mouthed vulgarity, and rampant disregard for posted quiet hours is actually the more typical experience at a Michigan state park campground. Why this is tolerated I don't know. This is a public place, not a private home, and everyone who makes a reservation agrees to abide by park rules, including the one regarding quiet hours. Yet the rules then go unenforced. Which is why I so highly recommend Hoffmaster for true nature enthusiasts and families with children. Because no one should have their vacation ruined by the drunk next door.

We stoped there on the way back from Silver lake to Rochester, and was really hard to stay just 2 hours as planned.
The beach has a very clean water, you can see al the fish , the sand is very clear and clean and the depth is perfect to play with kids without worries.
The bathroom are clean and well preserved, and if you forget to bring the life jacket, just get one over there, yep they are available to use.

Had a good time! Not too crowded. Went to go down a trail and didn't have the easiest time knowing where to go. Overall, awesome place.
