We met at this lovely little restaurant in Blaye half way between our respective homes in Vaux Sur Mer near Royan and Casteljaloux south east of Bordeaux.
As we were enjoying the lovely autumn sunshine we sat outside and after our pre prandials chose from the "Menu du Jour" plats!
Tuna ravioli, Crepe with ham and cheese, Gesiers salads, were our choices.
Our main courses : medallions of beef x3 and magret parmentier. (Cottage pie with duck!)
My parmentier was excellent and whilst the beef dishes were slightly overcooked I did notice that not a lot was left on the plates at the end of the meal!
For dessert: Tartes aux pommes (apple pie), Pain perdu (a take on bread and butter pudding!) and a Bordelais tarte ( Bakewell Tart) were very tasty .
We drank the house wines and completed our meal with coffee.

The bill of 100 Euro was more than acceptable!

A lovely friendly waitress completed our experience!

When you realize you are in a really small town which you didn't plan to be in it can go completely wrong or just be totally great. Walking into this little restaurant, we felt this is such a cute and cosy place.

The restaurant was managed by a couple - she was serving and he was in the kitchen.

We had a lovely meal. Well priced and very very pleasant.

So france ... We loved it !

This was a most pleasant evening in a small restaurant with two friendly owners and a wonderful ambiance. A great dining experience.
The cuisine was good and presented well but by no means great. But please don't let that put you off!
We began with a charming amuse bouche beautifully presented and both had the scallops to follow. Isobel had the beef for mains while I had the sea bass. The beef was flavorsome but chewy but the sea bass done right. Attention had been placed on presentation and both dishes were attractive. Desserts were good; a strawberry pastry combining the fraise with flaky pastry, sauce vanille, cream and ice cream for me and a casing of chocolate filled with pineapple and ice cream for Isobel.
The chef, the lady in the front of the house, the customers and the food made for a most enjoyable evening!

We went here a couple of years ago and loved it so being back in Blaye we decided to re-visit. An excellent choice!

This is just the kind of restaurant you find in France where a couple are dedicated to their art: one running the kitchen and one the dining room. And art it really is.

The service is impeccable and charming and the food outstanding - from the beautifully created and exquisite 'amusés bouches' to the tiny, equally delicious Canelés with coffee. And what the chef does with vegetables was brilliant. Yum.

If you love good food please go - but remember to book or you'll be disappointed. It's full all the time.

This was our third visit to La Gavroche in two years and maitre d' Miriam and chef de cuisine Patrick have begun to welcome us as old friends. We have taken to bringing friends with us as this is a treat not to be missed if you are in Blaye (or indeed, anywhere in the Gironde or Medoc region - we stay in Soulac sur Mer, which is an 80- minute drive and a ferry ride away, yet this is one of the highlights of our stay).
The 15-euro three-course lunchtime menu offers very good fresh seasonal food and the bill of fare changes according to what is freshest and best value. I can't recommend this lovely little backstreet restaurant more highly.
