We arrived in Hautefort in the morning only to discover that the chateau didn't open until 2:00 PM, so after a ramble in the village we needed a place to have a long leisurely lunch. And this was the place.

I had very tasty beef bourguignon at a leisurely relaxed pace in a comfortable and welcoming spot. What more could you want in a small French village?

Rustic looking place with a charming menu, not gastronomic but fresh food. Service was charming and chef cooks behind the counter infront if you. shame it closes winter months.

We ate here with friends on a chilly autumn evening and enjoyed the roaring log burner, warm friendly welcome (even for four noisy children!) and delicious food. Highly recommended.

Perfect location beneath the splendid Chateau within a delightful medieval (?) square this tastefully finished restaurant with interesting decor and artwork for sale provided a splendid lunch that was served by an utterly hard working, pleasant maitre d'.

Starter of fish tartare was served with a simple salad and the dressing was stunning. (Local walnut oil perhaps?). We both enjoyed the pavé of veal served with a delicious sage sauce and potato rosti that was delicious despite appearing over cooked. Both courses went very well with the Bergerac rosé. Walnut cake dessert and exquisite coffee finished it off well.

Too good to miss, service, ambience and food of the highest standards.

What a pleasant surprise. Hautefort is such a beautiful village with its amazing chateau, and to find a lunch spot, open on a sunday, with such a great ambiance, roaring wood burner and tasty food, the icing on the cake. It was full and we had booked in advance, so don't risk turning up without a reservation. Excellent food, lovely atmosphere, beautiful village. Plus check out the interesting antique shop. Lots of gorgeous nic nacs.
