Description: City Park Grill, one of Petoskey’s oldest buildings, was originally constructed in 1875. McCarty Hall, as it was then known was a malesonly billiard parlor that offered cigars and “intoxicating beverages.” Today, City Park Grill maintains a loyal clientele with house-made cuisine, focusing on locally procured produce, meats and lake fish, an awardwinning wine collection and house-made biscuits straight from the oven

We stayed at the Apple Tree inn and the hotel staff recommended this place. We had a little wait to get in as it was a holiday weekend, but once inside the service was impeccable. Our waitress was perfect and the food was amazing. I had the filet and it was perfectly cooked. The biscuits are wonderful and kind of what they're known for. Drinks were mixed well and had plenty of alcohol in them. The decor was beautiful with wood detailing and tin ceilings. Classic older style building that's been restored. The place is open from front to back so noise levels are higher than places that have more closed off area's, but it wasn't overpowering. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Couldn't have had a much better recommendation for a dinner out in a new town.

First of all, being in Northern Michigan for the 4th of July is not for the faint of heart. It is busy in every little town up there for the whole week. We had a party of five and decided to go early. We made a reservation just to be safe, and we were seated immediately.
Our waiter was inexperienced, but very kind (which makes up for a lot!).
The food was good. I had grilled chicken. It was good. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It is a little pricey but that is to be expected in Northern Michigan.
The inside the restaurant is very cool. They have kept up a lot of what it looked like when Hemingway used to frequent it.
Overall, it isn’t my favorite place in Petoskey, but you can definitely get a good (but pricey) meal here.

We went to City Park Grill with a group of 11 that then expanded to 13.
The restaurant was quick to add more chairs and a small table to accommodate the extra people. We were celebrating the night before a wedding and had young couples in early 20's to those in their 80's. Everyone found something they liked on the menu. Service was good -- drinks kept coming along with the biscuits followed by Steak and Seafood.
Dessert offerings were small but the fresh fruit cobbler with ice cream was very good.
Restaurant has air but it was challenged that night by the high temperature outside.

We spent only one night in Petoskey; therefore, we had only one time to choose the right place for dinner and we scored. The City Park Grill steps from the pages of a history book looking like an English pub with top hat lampshades on wall sconces, swinging pub doors and old world woodwork. Except for a mix up with my husband's beverage, the service and food were good. I had grilled chicken, green beans and truffle mashed potatoes of which there was only one scoop--the plate deserved two. Then there are the hot biscuits, slightly sweet with a crunchy outer crust. These are not like southern biscuits but still delicious. Overall, a delightful experience.

We were tired after pickle ball and an escape room, and went here for lunch. Very friendly person sat us down and we got hot biscuits right away. I then order soup and salad, my teen sons had a burger and fish and chips. And my husband had a bowl of chowder. Everything was great. We watched the World Cup match while there too. Very fun.
